We're working with a global messaging provider in the migration to, and optimization of data stores on AWS. We're seeking a Lead or Principal DBA or Data Engineer with specific expertise in the migration to, and optimization of data on AWS services including Amazon RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB. This role will require demonstrated professionalism, technical proficiency, and the ability to effectively manage a complex and evolving workload. The ideal candidate is organized, accountable, self-motivated, and highly experienced with Amazon RDS, AuroraDB clusters, connection management, replication, security, and infrastructure as code.

This position can be performed 100% remotely and requires a balance between design and implementation, a high sense of ownership of the problems, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with objectives, great communication with stakeholders, mentorship of more junior engineers or cloud DBAs, the hands-on expertise to implement designs, make changes on production systems, and proactively escalate issues. In this role, you will be responsible for multiple data migrations and key improvements to a mission-critical global AWS data environment supporting a fast-scaling global platform for programmable voice, SMS, call tracking, and more. Work responsibilities will include design, data flow, planning, infrastructure, security, and overall performance across both migrations and production environments.

Responsibilities of the Lead AWS Database Administrator/DBRE:
  • Lead data migrations to, and optimizations of scaled Amazon data services environments (DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS), ensuring performance, availability, and reliability
  • Collaborate closely with a small team of engineers to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems
  • Follow-up delivery of a breadth of implementation, migration, and operational services across a growing global footprint in the cloud

Requirements of the Lead AWS Database Administrator/DBRE:
  • 7+ years of overall experience in Data Engineering, Data Administration, or Software Development in scaled production MySQL or PostgreSQL environment, ideally familiar with high availability MySQL 5.7+ operations including key metrics and other aspects of observability
  • 5+ years of experience in a highly scaled production Amazon Aurora, RDS, or DynamoDB environment, DB clusters, connection management, replication, and serverless
  • 2+ years of experience contributing to data migrations to these AWS services
  • Experience working in at least one major coding language like Java or Python, and one major scripting language like Python, Ruby, Bash, etc.
  • Broad experience across multiple database platforms
  • Ability and desire to automate solutions
  • Ability to work with multiple teams in an effective and collaborative manor
  • Ability to relate complex technical problems to non-technical business stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills preferred
  • Experience with software development and best practices
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code solutions like Terraform
