REQUIRED

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • Successful completion (Licensure or certification) of accredited Advanced Practice Clinician program

  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    • Current California NP, PA, CNM or other Advanced Practice Clinician license
    • Current CPR certificate

  • COMPUTER SKILLS

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge/experience with EHR & EPM systems. Knowledge of spreadsheet software and word processing software preferred.

  • OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS

    • Two or more years’ experience in health care supervision/management including personnel management, program management and fiscal management preferred. Willingness to learn management skills required
    • Leadership skills including vision, enthusiasm, common sense and a commitment to patient centered care
    • Commitment to working with low-income and culturally diverse patients with an emphasis on health equity and empowerment

RESPONSIBILITIES

Seeking a Full-Time Lead Clinician to serve patients in a San Rafael Health Center.

SUMMARY

The Lead Clinician will function as part of a health center management team to provide clinical care and leadership under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director in accordance Medical Standards and Guidelines and all relevant federal, state, and local regulations. The Lead Clinician is the clinical leader of the health center by assisting in the medical supervision and oversight of the center staff. The Lead Clinician acts as primary medical quality assurance staff person at the designated health center.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Direct Patient Care

      • Work in the health center providing comprehensive clinical sexual and reproductive health care services to all patients in accordance with evidence-based practice protocols
      • Utilize knowledge of and experience in patient care to:
      • Obtain a basic health history and comprehensive gynecological (GYN) history
      • Perform a general physical exam, breast exam, GYN exam, and male genitourinary exam
      • Recognize common breast and GYN deviations from normal and provide management or referral as appropriate
      • Recognize common non-GYN deviations from normal and provide management or referral as appropriate
      • Provide preventive care, including screening for breast and cervical cancers
      • Obtain and interpret laboratory tests and results related to GYN visits
      • Perform and interpret transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds
      • Screen for contraindications and special conditions to contraceptive methods
      • Provide appropriate contraception to patients, including intrauterine contraceptives (IUCs) and implants
      • Test and treat STDs and other infectious conditions
      • Provide PrEP and nPEP to prevent HIV infection
      • Provide care across the reproductive health lifespan, including basic infertility services and menopause management
      • Provide medication abortion, early pregnancy complication management, and other special services as appropriate by licensure
      • Assess and manage complications from surgical abortion, medication abortion, and vasectomy
      • Provide care for patients of all gender identities, including gender-affirming care
      • Exercise a commitment diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions with patients and staff
      • Construct an accurate assessment and plan based on history, exam, and lab findings
      • Provide patient with general reproductive health maintenance, education and counseling
      • Ensure complete and accurate medical documentation
      • Act as a medical resource for health center staff
      • Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity, with the goal of 3.0 visits per hour
      • Bill and code patient visits appropriately
      • Participate in research studies conducted in the health center

    • Clinical Oversight/Supervision

      • Oversee the utilization of medication including prescription medications, controlled medications, emergency medications, cervical blocks, and, when necessary, the mixing of medications by licensed staff
      • Co-Lead, with the Center Director, the oversight of clinicians in your health center
      • Complete, in collaboration with the Center Director, performance evaluations for clinicians assigned to your health center
      • Orient, onboard and train new clinicians and RNs working in your health center, provide them with feedback as needed, report pertinent information to Clinician Trainers, Senior Director of Clinical Practice, Senior Regional Clinicians, and Medical Director when appropriate
      • Observe all clinicians and RNs working in your health center, provide them with feedback as needed, report pertinent information when needed and consult with Clinician Trainers, Senior Director of Clinical Practice, Senior Regional Clinicians, and Medical Director when appropriate
      • Participate in the peer review system. Conduct chart review for new clinicians as stated in the administrative protocols and standard operating procedures
      • If meets qualifications, act as lab technical consultant by ensuring that all CLIA required proficiency tests and competency assessments are completed
      • Act as designated on-sight lab resource for day-to-day laboratory functions
      • Responsible for the training sign off and oversight of non-licensed staff on laboratory testing
      • Responsible for the training and oversight of licensed staff on laboratory testing
      • Provide specified training sign-off, oversight, and performance evaluation feedback for non-licensed staff in your health center

    • Leadership

      • Attend and participate in Provider and Lead Clinician meetings
      • Attend, contribute, and participate in your health center’ s staff meetings
      • Present all clinical updates and information at health center staff meetings. The Lead Clinician is expected to present a minimum of one clinical update and/or topic in-service at every staff meeting.
      • Disseminate changes to the Medical Standards & Guidelines to other clinicians and staff.
      • Demonstrate interest and involvement in the affiliate
      • Oversee the ordering of all prescriptive medications, including all controlled medications
      • Oversee the disposal of expired prescriptive medications, non-prescriptive medications, liquids, and controlled medications
      • Serve as a resource in areas of expertise for the affiliate. Present in-service programs as directed by the Medical Director and/or Center Director
      • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
      • Manage and resolve diverse perspectives by being sensitive to (or understanding) these differences and working to successfully address any related issues
      • Exhibit the behaviors set forth in the clinic standards at all times

    • Quality Assurance

      • Supervise the quality and risk improvement program in your clinic, including adherence to infection control and injury prevention
      • Review, count, and document controlled medications with RN or other provider and sign the “ Pharm-05 (F and M) Controlled Drug Disposition Record” a minimum of once a month
      • Participate in audits as requested
      • Review all clinic and health center assigned clinician audits. Along with the Center Director, assist in creating and implementing remediation plans when needed
      • Investigate and implement process for recalled medications and medical products
      • Maintain emergency cart and related documentation as specified in S&Gs
      • Review all Center logs for completion
      • Submit incident reports for the center

  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Clinical Practice, Senior Regional Clinicians, Medical Director, and the Center Director, the Lead Clinician is responsible for supervising the other Advanced Practice Clinicians at the assigned health center and acting as a mentor to other clinicians. In addition, the Lead Clinician acts as part of the health center management team to provide supervision to other staff members.
