Job Description: The Lead Systems Engineer will manage and maintain the core server infrastructure for the University of California, Riverside. This role will also serve as an infrastructure technical leader for the organization, providing technical governance and ensuring best practices are followed. This role will engage in development, design, implementation, configuration and support of complex operating environments across the enterprise. The Lead Systems Engineer will promote system security and efficient operation, analyzing capacity and performance of system environments. This position will investigate and recommend technology solutions as they relate to the system architecture and associated technologies, which includes, but is not limited to virtualization, operating systems, application design, integration with cloud offerings, active redundancy, and dynamic fail-over. The Lead Systems Engineer will maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of theSystems Engineering discipline including awareness of new technologies, improvements/changes in system architecture, and proposals that move the University of California, Riverside toward its agile and open target IT Architecture. This position will work with vendors, ITS colleagues, and customers to define and understand system requirements to plan, design, and implement system architecture and security; not limited to data integrity/recovery, planning, contingency planning, research & development. These solutions must be thoroughly documented by this role and able to be consumed and acted upon by the Systems Operations team. This position is classified as remote with occasional visits to campus as necessary. Creates highly technical specifications for systems with broad impact at a campmedical center/OP or within a large organization. Performs highly complex analysis of unit and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper system and process requirement specifications. Designs, documents, and implements integration between disparate systems using industry best practices. Assists in translating user requirements into technological solutions. 15Understands and applies industry practices, community standards and department/unit policies and procedures in depth. May serve as technical lead for multiple projects of moderate to broad scope. May lead a team of IT professionals. Implements and maintains project plans. Provides technical leadership to the System Operations team as well as the larger ITS organization. 10Researches, recommends and designs large and complex campmedical center/OP-wide and/or institution-wide adoptions, deployments and technology transitions. Stays current on industry standards, best practices, and new technologies. Recommends and implements proof of concepts around new technological solutions. 5Develops full data/information documentation for highly complex small- and medium-size projects. Performs complex data management or resource research and studies for a variety of constituents; plans metadata acquisition for sets of unstructured data objects. Coordinates reviewsof data models and data definitions. Develops both conceptual and detailed data models for projects. Initiates and designs for diverse data and data systems. Initiates, designs and implements detailed interfaces between computer systems. Initiates, designs, executes and sustains metadata for collections of digital objects. Designs and implements connectivity between diverse systems, both on premise and in the cloud, using scripting or third party software. 5Applies advanced concepts in working on database projects of campmedical center/OP-wide and/or multi-institutional scope. Configures data connections on application servers and works with the DBA team to perform full stack performance tuning. 5Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge/Skill/Ability RequirementAdvanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
