We currently have a new and exciting position available for a L5 Lab Compute Support to join a corporate environment for an onsite position.L5 Lab Compute Support Lab Compute Support in Scope: Support to provide system HW/SW install, upgrades, system repair, KVM and PDU install and debug in the lab environment. HW/SW upkeep to include assistance with Client compliance and procedural enhancements, system assembly, and system image creation for non-standard desktop, laptop and KVM hardware located in the datacenter/lab used in the iLab virtual environment. At higher competency levels, the System Technicians will conduct failure diagnosis and analysis of failures, as well as develop additional test and debug aids to improve overall productivity and performance. Support will be provided as dedicated models with 40hrs a week during standard business hours. CW leads will coordinate with site managers for local lab support. They will also document processes and train the junior peers.Responsibilities will include: Provides lab support for both site physical labs and datacenters as well as support of iLab (virtual labs as required).

  • Physical Lab Support
  • Build systems and configure hardware and platforms from a BOM
  • Custom OS or software support needed in the Lab environment
OS includes Window (Client and Server) and Linux Administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, SLES).Acronis setups, Microsoft Office, VNC, DataGrove setup and other system maintenance as requested.Demonstrate working knowledge of networking of systems in a Windows active directory environment (DCHP, DNS, Users and Groups, account creation, etc.)Strong working knowledge of networking environments and troubleshooting network related issues. (all labs use different subnets, Isolated or Community, VLAN's)
  • Server/HW experience and administration strong requirement
  • Experience supporting systems in a datacenter environment
  • Strong understanding of network devices in a production lab/data center environment is required or in test floor/development environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux is a must
  • Working knowledge of Windows is required
  • Familiar with using and executing scripts
  • Working knowledge of VMware or Hypervisors
  • Familiar with using OS provisioning tools for OS installation (Puppet, Cobbler, Kickstart, etc.)
  • Install updates to firmware or system drivers
  • Maintaining systems, tool support PC's, servers and KVMs to ensure connectivity
  • Setting up multiple clients that connect to one server in temporary lab projects
  • Complete intake process request i.e. ticket.
  • Will be required to complete Client training (Hazardous materials, data center safety, etc.)
  • Read, understand, and follow test documentations.
  • Assist in volume equipment upgrades, testing and readiness tasks including lab space alterations, equipment allocation/placement and basic rework.
  • Must know how and when to escalate and ask for help.
  • Virtualization Support
  • Remote Installation and/or Upgrading of Hypervisor software on Client Blade series hardware
  • Integrating Hypervisor Servers into existing Virtualization Environments
  • General VM access, configuration and troubleshooting
  • Moving and provisioning of VM's or Image templates within the Virtualization Environments
  • Generic Virtualization troubleshooting of hypervisor and web interfaces
  • Generic Virtualization Storage troubleshooting
  • Guarantee iLab server and KVM connectivity; as well as all non-IT network connected iLab hardware
  • General understanding of Virtualization concepts and implementation (i.e. setup, install, configure, troubleshoot)
  • General understanding of Network Management (i.e. interconnectivity, integration, Add/Edit/Remove requests, firewall restrictions)
  • General understanding of Remote Connectivity & Management (i.e. integration with iLab, DNS requests, Edit/Change/Remove requests)
  • Working knowledge of Windows OS's
  • Basic knowledge of installing and networking Linux (no Linux OS troubleshooting required)
Data Center Support
  • Collaborate with a team of software and networking engineers to ensure the security and efficiency of data center server/network
  • Monitor customer network servers and storage systems to ensure uptime and efficient resolution of issues
  • Listen to customer complaints and assist them in the resolution of technical issues
  • Perform EOL procedures on systems that have been targeted for retirement
  • Rack new servers; coordinate new landings.
  • Understand network topology in order to serve as a liaison between customers and Networking Team
Linux Support
  • Knowledge of CIFS shares for Windows and NFS exports for Linux
  • Understand where shares are mounted during bootup or through static mount/autmount
  • Linux shell scripting knowledge or understanding (could learn if experience in Powershell)
  • Familiarity with deploying Debian, SLES 11,12 via Cobbler or similar Deployment Tool via the network
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu
  • Familiarity with Samba shares a plus
Additional Requirements
  • General understanding of Linux package managers (apt/yum)
  • Applying security specific updates to packages
  • Competent usage of the Linux command line interface
  • Applying environment specific variable settings for default and per user
  • Deployment of NIS/SMB/NFS file systems for multi-user access
  • Basic knowledge of SUID, GUID, and Sticky Bit and their application usage
  • Experience with SSH diagnostics, setup, and security hardening
  • Network troubleshooting with port usage and IP conflict or diagnosing
  • Knowledge of best backup practices, including archiving and compression
  • Optional experience with Quest Authentication Services / VAS
