M&A and Restructuring IT Specialist Leader

Deloitte's US M&A and Restructuring Offering Portfolio enables our client's ability to acquire, sell, reorganize and fundamentally change the nature of their business and competitive positioning in dynamic markets full of change and disruption. By providing merger, acquisition, and divestiture services from through the full M&A lifecycle, we bring a comprehensive set of capabilities and services to market. The US M&A and Restructuring Offering Portfolio works with Industry teams to identify trends and opportunities leading to M&A or strategic cost restructuring events and enables us to sell and deliver strategic advisory services as well as pull through transformative implementation and operate services.

Work you'll do

A Specialist Leader at Deloitte has deep expertise in a particular domain or subject area and works within an engagement team to identify the organization's needs, defines the business or technology architecture, plans how projects will be delivered, oversees the solution design and implementation, manages the progress of the team and activities, and confirms work products meet our firm's and the client's quality standards. Additionally, Specialist Leaders are expected to mentor/coach staff, contribute to sales activities, and develop eminence through writing papers and/or presenting at conferences. A summary of the expectations is provided below:
  • Client Service: Advise clients on leading practices and technology/industry trends, business process/operating model/application/integration architecture, solution design, and implementation leading practices related to their specialty. Build deep subject matter expertise in a particular specialty be it in an industry, function, technology and/or stage within the M&A lifecycle. Bring specialist POV to clients based on expertise, experience and related tools/processes. Understand M&A/Restructuring trends, triggers and future potential as it relates to specialty. Build lasting relationships through day to day interactions with key client managers and staff.
  • Delivery: Bring industry/ functional/ technical experience and knowledge to deliver solutions which allow clients to achieve their business strategy. Leverage M&A methods, tools and processes and adapt to specialty to make more impactful. Plan and lead small to medium client projects/workshops and facilitate leadership/management discussions. Independently manage project teams and/or workstreams and deliver work. Leads project components, delivering significant value by acting as the subject matter expert to the client and project team related to their specialization. Present alternatives and supporting recommendations aligned with the client's business and technology requirements. Contribute to project estimating, planning, contracting and staffing activities. Manage technical and/or functional teams to design, build, test and implement enterprise applications. Anticipate, raise, and resolve issues which pose risk to the project. Monitor progress and quality. Track and report status.
  • Business Development: Contributes to sales efforts in areas related to his or her specialization. Support identification and pursuit of business development through data gathering, research or proposal development. Support selling add-on work by bringing specialty to bear and positioning how Deloitte can help. Contribute ideas and thought-provoking viewpoints to advance Deloitte in the client's mindshare related to specialty. Apply knowledge of specialty trends to assist in market and opportunity assessments. Manage development of market-and client-valued intellectual capital, including best practice deliverables and articles related to specialty. May be invited to participate in oral presentations of the proposal related to their specialization to highlight relevant experiences that position Deloitte as the preferred supplier. Develop and maintain relationships with client stakeholders to establish and maintain our status as a trusted advisor.
  • People Development: Shares his or her knowledge with staff across the Firm and begins to develop the next generation of experts in areas related to his or her specialty. Coaches, mentors, and develops practitioners, with emphasis on his or her area of specialty. Encourage and empower others' interest in area of specialty and enlist support in challenging status quo and driving change. Participates in recruiting and onboarding activities as a credible example for prospective specialist hires. Provide leadership and support for staff on projects and in local offices. Perform regular check-ins with team members and people for which you coach as a part of the performance management process.
  • Eminence: Contribute to go-to-market and internal initiatives which drive growth of the practice, drive efficiency and profitability, improve quality, and increase the knowledge of our staff. Co-author articles, whitepapers, PoVs, methods/tools and practice development related to specialty. Speak at conferences, universities, or other forums to promote Deloitte's brand. Shapes and contributes significantly to internal and external eminence, demonstrating ability to lead external eminence-building activities. Actively demonstrate ability to leverage your specialty in the market and adapt specialty to new environments or situations.

The team

M&A and Restructuring IT advises, implements, and delivers transformative solutions to clients to optimize their IT activities due to a pending/completed transaction, restructuring and strategic cost transformation event. This team helps clients refocus their IT capabilities and identify their optimal Transaction and Transformation strategies. As the Next-Gen provider of M&A and Restructuring services, M&A and Restructuring IT uses Delivery Innovation, Cloud and Flexible Compute Services to enhance every aspect of IT within the M&A and Restructuring landscape. The team also provides subject matter knowledge across critical components of IT (e.g. infrastructure, applications, IT operations, IT finances and expenses, Active Directory, end-user computing, messaging, enterprise architecture, testing). Our practitioners perform business process analysis, mapping, and design for M&A and Restructuring projects focused on an IT work stream including IT infrastructure separation, data center migration, application integration/separation/rationalization, or IT synergies/cost reduction.

Qualifications:
  • A candidate must have M&A and Restructuring, or M&A and Restructuring Service Delivery Experience in the following areas:
    • Participating in setting engagement objectives and scope.
    • Framing issues and breaking it down into hypotheses to be solved
    • Developing work plans for components of engagements, coordinate activities between work streams and identify changes in scope.
    • Designing deliverable content to precisely reflect the engagement contract and client needs and strive to improve deliverable quality through verification and validation of results.
    • Managing cross-functional teams to deliver M&A and Restructuring engagements across all of phases of the M&A and Restructuring lifecycle including due-diligence, pre-close, and post-merger integration.
    • Collaborating with practitioners in other practices and businesses.
    • Providing corporate and private equity buyers with a broad continuum of advisory services to support mergers, acquisitions, carve-outs, investment and financing structures, disposition alternatives and post-transaction activities.
    • Partnering with senior executives to define how they employ M&A and Restructuring - in alignment with their corporate strategy - to drive profitable growth and enable them to compete effectively in their industry.
    • Providing industry insight and analytical support using data mining, pattern matching, data visualization, and predictive modelling tools to produce analysis and algorithms that enables pre-deal and post-deal integration, divestiture, and major restructuring/cost transformation activities to achieve/exceed deal value, synergy targets, or strategic cost takeout objectives.
    • Managing service excellence by identifying key client business issues, determining client needs by supplementing the standard assessment techniques and tools with innovative approaches, evaluating and validating analysis and developing recommendations for the client in the context of the overall engagement.
    • Managing day-to-day interactions with executive clients and sponsors; develop and maintain contact with top decision makers at key clients.
    • Participating and leading aspects of the proposal development process; contributing to the development of proposal pricing strategies.
    • Identifying and developing add-on sales opportunities
    • Performing role of counselor and coach; actively participate in staff recruitment and retention activities; provide leadership and support for delivery teams and staff in local offices.
    • Improving internal processes, and promote knowledge sharing in the team, by contributing to the community of practice, blogs, and other forms of market eminence.
  • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years consulting and/or industry experience; alternatively, an MBA with 5+ years relevant work experience is acceptable.
  • Depth in at least one area of Information Technology.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Migration/Standup is a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.

Preferred:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (MS PowerPoint & Excel Modeling).
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment.
  • Ability to apply practical experience with communications, culture, and change management.
  • Ability to perform analysis and synthesize data into useful insights.
  • Experience in financial analysis, business process reengineering and operational performance improvement analysis.
  • Experience with staff development and eagerness to mentor junior practitioners.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments.
  • An advanced degree is preferred.
