Position Overview:The Medical Technologist I performs and demonstrates proficiency and understanding of technical procedures on pediatric, adult and geriatric patients in one or more discipline of the Clinical Laboratory. Responsible for validity of test results, result reporting, specimen handling, and maintenance of necessary department records.Evaluates the validity of test results prior to reporting to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. Identifies problems when control values are unacceptable. Notifies Lead Medical Technologist or Manager for assistance in resolving the problem.

Responsible for answering questions and resolving assay and instrument problems, troubleshooting as needed. Performs instrument/test maintenance and function checks. Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Perform proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.

Assists Manager or Lead Medical Technologist with validation and performance of method performance specifications for new and existing assays. Make quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test. Adhere to all policies and procedures regarding quality control, quality assurance

Follows laboratory policies and procedures for venipuncture, specimen handling, processing, of patient test results. Examines and evaluates specimens for compliance with all pre-analytical specimen requirements and maintain positive identification of specimens throughout all phases of the assay.

Perform laboratory functions that require subjective judgment to directly achieve analytical results. Ensure the integrity of quality control and patient data. Perform the steps necessary to achieve quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of patient specimens while following all required procedures and policies related to her/his specific job duties.

Reports test results through laboratory information system via manual keyboard entry or data interface. Calls all stat and critical value results to the appropriate individual in accordance with laboratory policy and procedure.

Maintains complete written records that all technical work performed, including test calculations, standard readings, calibration settings, quality control results, and reporting time and initials of individual who performed the test.

Qualifications:Education & License:Bachelor’s Degree in a physical, chemical or biological science from a college or university accredited by the Western Association of Schools or CollegesClinical Lab Scientist License - CLS-LExperience:A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical laboratory.
