Job Description: The Microsoft SQL Database Engineer will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical MS SQL Server systems to ensure the availability and consistent performance of campus enterprise applications. This position requires solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The MS SQL Database Engineer will be responsible for the development and sustainment of SQL Server databases and clusters, ensuring operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modeling in support of multiple development teams.

Interacts with teams of advanced IT professionals as a proactive member. Provides software consulting for database performance and design. - The incumbent will manage MS SQL Server instances for third party applications supporting campus departments, databases for the campus portal and databases for in-house developed applications on Grails and .NET.
35 Implements database solutions from evaluation to implementation of large enterprise level hardware and software. Formulates procedures and standards relating to database management.20 Develops disaster recovery plans and tests, backup solutions and system security. - Applies updates and patches for MS SQL Server during regularly scheduled maintenance windows. Arcitects, builds, and manages MS SQL Server clustered databases utilizing SQL Always On.
20 Maintains and manages MS SQL platform including SQL Database, SQL Reporting Services, SQL Analysis Services, SQL Server Integration Services, and PowerBI for various applications and departments on campus.15 In partnership with the Systems Engineering and Operations team, perform some systems administration tasks on the underlying operating system that is supporting MS SQL database instances. 10Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge/Skill/AbilityRequirement Demonstrates interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, service orientation, active listening, effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills.Required Demonstrated knowledge archictecting, building and managing Microsoft SQL Server clusters in a highly available, fault-tolerant configuration running on a virtualized platform such as VMWare or Hyper-V.Required Knowledge of conceptual database design.
