Summary Incumbent works in the Commander, Navy Region, Southwest (CNRSW) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program under the general supervision of the Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Fitness Manager). Incumbent provides support and assists in the operation of CNRSW fitness centers and gyms. Responsibilities 1. Checks I.D. cards to ensure only authorized personnel utilize the equipment and facility. Issues membership (facility use) cards to authorized personnel. 2. Provides general information about the facility. Settles disputes between individuals and groups regarding the use of the facility. Ensures patrons are following established policies and procedures. 3. Responsible for issuing fitness/gym equipment and towels to patrons. Accepts return of equipment; returns to proper storage or clean and launders as appropriate. Notifies supervisor of any equipment not returned and/or damaged. 4. Provides assistance for the sale of resale items. Operates cash register, receives payments and prepares deposits according to established cash handling procedures. Prepares Daily Activity Records (DAR) for all cash transactions. 5. Inspects area for general condition, safety hazards or for routine maintenance needs and reports findings to supervisor. 6. Inventories equipment and resale items as required. Maintains appropriate records and reports. Reports any loss or damage to supervisor. 7. Opens or and/or closes the facility according to established procedures. 8. Performs general housekeeping tasks to insure proper standards of appearance, cleanliness and safety of assigned spaces, including but not limited to mopping, sweeping, cleaning of locker rooms, workout areas, gym floors and doing laundry. 9. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Combination of experience related to customer service and or recreation activity-based functions. Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities. Must be able to work independently, make sound decisions and have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques and procedures used in organizing, planning and conducting leisure time activities. Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission and the entire scope of Community Recreation activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages and interests. Knowledge of the functions, procedures, and operations of recreation activities. Must have strong customer service skills. Ability to maintain records, compile and organize data for reports, and perform research on recreation topics for dissemination to customers. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care. Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment. Some positions have special requirements.
