Job Summary:This Nurse Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner role provides overall outputs the practices of learning, change, professional role competence and growth, which supports the optimal patient care, population health, and protection of the public within a unit/department, inter-departmental, or house-wide level in select cases. As a learning facilitator, the NPD practitioner uses the educational design process to bridge the knowledge, skills, and/or practice gaps identified through needs assessment. As a change agent, the NPD practitioner actively works to transform processes at micro and mesosystem levels through inspiration, initiation, adoption, and sustainment of and adaptation to change using project management and improvement processes. As a mentor to clinical nurses and other inter-professionals, the NPD practitioner advances the profession by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting life-long learning as individuals develop across practice, professional and educational settings. As a leader, the NPD practitioner influences the interprofessional practice and learning environments, the NPD specialty, the profession of nursing, and healthcare.The NPD practitioner is a champion for scientific inquiry, promoting the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to advance NPD practice, guide clinical practice, and improve patient care. The NPD practitioner is an advocate for NPD specialty actively supporting, promoting, and demonstrating nursing professional development as a nursing practice specialty. Additionally, the NPD practitioner is a partner for practice transitions, supporting the transition of nurses and other healthcare team members across learning and practice environments, roles, and professional stages.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops, implements, and evaluates educational activities to address practice gaps for identified target audiences, which may include continuing nursing education (CNE), interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) and education for nonlicensed healthcare personnel.

Coordinates the implementation of an educational plan within the unit/dept, includes activities and resources necessary to achieve desired outcomes.

Implements and coordinates an individualized program to guide the new hire towards job competency; occurs during onboarding and also when changes in roles, responsibilities, and practice settings occur

Implements educational programs and project plans. Monitors progress, resources allocation and utilization, and cascades the information to the key stakeholders.

Develops educational content in collaboration with key stakeholders, such as representatives of the target audience and content experts.

Supports others in their professional role development, practice role transitions, and succession planning. Involves identification and development of strategies to facilitate a continuous process of maturation through lifelong learning.

Utilizes quality improvement processes to promote and integrate the science of the NPD specialty in order to continuously improve their practice along with nursing practice through the promotion of research, evidence-based practice (EBP), and quality improvement (QI) in patient care settings.

Collaborates with partners to share expertise in planning and decision making to achieve the desired results. Such as interprofessional collaborative education (IPCE), community partnerships with emergency medical services and public/community health departments to address threats to population health or disaster management, and collaboration with other organizations promoting population health.

Utilizes the existing evidence to guide practice decisions as well as clinical practice outcomes.

Identifies and utilizes valid, reliable and relevant methods and instruments to measure processes and desired outcomes.
