What will you be doing:The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Anesthesia Pre-procedure Evaluation Center (APEC), you will assist the supervising anesthesiologist and medical director to evaluate the patient's medical status and ability to tolerate surgery and anesthesia for the planned procedure, reduce the anesthetic and surgical risk, delay the procedure for patient optimization when indicated, and to prepare the patient for the procedure. The Nurse Practitioner will also serve as the Clinical Lead and a daily point-of-contact to the clinical staff and will address escalations as needed. They will assist in the creation and review of education materials for the pre-operative and pre-procedural patients, develop, review and implement pre-operative guidelines. The Nurse Practitioner will also participate and lead performance improvement projects pertaining to the APEC Clinic, pre-operative patient preparation, patient education and other potential challenges.

Responsible to the medical director and the chief nursing officer (CNO) and functions as an integral part of the medical team.

Practices under the Board of Registered Nursing California code of regulations, Title 16, Article 8, Section 1480-1485, utilizing the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures. These are developed in a collaborative effort within the area of specialty, department of Nursing and the Hospital Administration, incorporating CSHS goals and represent an interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery.

Provides individualized care upholding CSHS philosophies including but not limited to care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, the Plan for Provision of Patient Care, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan, the Professional Organization Standards, Code of Conduct, and hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to age and developmental milestones of the population(s) served which may include neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Can identify the ability of the age specific population served to follow direction/instructions and give consent. Identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide safe environment and provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served.
