POSITION / JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Oncology Service Survivorship/Palliative Care Nurse will function on the multidisciplinary team as an advocate, interpreter, educator and counselor for Oncology patients. S/he will be responsible for planning, implementing and directing the development of both the post cancer care Survivorship program and the in-patient Palliative Care program. S/he will be responsible for ensuring all patients with an oncologic diagnosis receive quality and comprehensive services. S/he will serve as a clinical resource with expertise in hematology/oncology care management. S/he will serve as a liaison throughout the facility and in the community, regarding services provided for this unique patient population, and will provide direction for steps beyond the acute care phase of care for the patient. S/he will be responsible for establishing coordination of the end of life care for patient and family, and providing emotional support to this population. S/he will provide expert nursing care, which includes direct clinical practice, consultation, education and research. Provides education and information to the patient and family, helping to make the care seamless, continuous and comprehensive.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse licensed by the CA State Board of Nursing.

ONS Certified preferred.

Clinical Nurse Specialist preferred.

Bachelor’s degree required in Nursing, Psychology or other related field.

Masters of Science Degree preferred.

3 years clinical experience in Oncology Nursing required.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to identify problems, generate and analyze feasible solutions and choose an optimum course of action.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Strong interpersonal skills that reflect a positive attitude and a sense of teamwork
