This position will pay $26.20 - $30.35 hourly. Salary is commensurate with experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, assist pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy, ensuring accurate dispensing, efficient workflow, and excellent customer service. Responsible for delivering medications throughout LA County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prescription data entry, packaging medications (i.e., pouring, counting, filling), and maintaining orderly filing of completed orders, all in full compliance with Federal, State, and local laws.

Inventory management including placing orders, maintaining sufficient supply, receiving, storing, and addressing discrepancies in collaboration with the pharmacist.

Cash handling and point-of-sale operations, including opening and closing procedures.

Models and delivers an outstanding customer service experience for patients. This includes non-clinical outreach, facilitating documentation as needed, and responding to patient needs with a helpful, calming, and problem-solving attitude—particularly when patients are in stressful or emotional situations.

Participates in clinical service coordination such as vaccinations, screenings, or medical device setup as directed by the pharmacist.

Processes medication deliveries and shipments using major couriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS, DoorDash) and ensures medications are delivered timely, to the correct location, and to the right person, while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA, APLA Health standards of confidentiality, and APLA Health Pharmacy compliance policies.

Maintains a neat, clean, and professional personal appearance and leaves assigned delivery vehicles clean and ready for the next shift. Adheres to maintenance and safety check schedules.

Fosters a collaborative work environment by assisting colleagues when needed, providing feedback to improve service, and training others on pharmacy operations and procedures.

Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives and special projects as assigned by the pharmacist, including the development and implementation of new systems and workflows.

Promotes APLA Health’s mission through friendly interactions with patients, clinic staff, and the public, including those requesting to transfer prescriptions, file grievances, or seek information.

Enhances team effectiveness by being cross-trained in multiple pharmacy functions, rotating through various assignments, and being adaptable and flexible in different roles as needed.

Participates in APLA Health’s broader mission by supporting patient enrollment and retention, and contributing to community engagement initiatives.

Stays informed about competitor services and local market trends to contribute to strategic improvements.

Regular interaction with patients and clinic staff providing HIV and STI clinical services.

Ensures timely and accurate delivery of medications, verifying patient information and obtaining signatures at the point of delivery.

Safely operates a personal or company vehicle to deliver prescription medications to patient homes, clinics, or partner sites.

Responsible for the cleanliness and readiness of the assigned vehicle, including refueling, routine safety checks, and car washes according to schedule.

Follows all protocols for the secure handling, transportation, and drop-off of medications in compliance with HIPAA and pharmacy confidentiality standards.

o Possession of a valid California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under APLA Health Pharmacy policies.

o Willingness and ability to travel long distances by car, often across multiple sites or regions, with short notice when needed.

o Comfort with GPS devices, route planning, and navigating varied traffic conditions to ensure timely delivery.

o Strong interpersonal communication skills and a professional demeanor when interacting with patients at their homes or delivery locations.

OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS.

REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience:

Highschool diploma or GED Equivalent and 6 months working as a Pharmacy Technician.

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technician(ExCPT) certification required.

Must have clear DMV driving record and be insurable through personal and company insurance.

Knowledge of:

Basic pharmaceutical calculations such as sufficient quantity and days supply.

Adequate computers skills.

Insurance plans and claims resolution skills. Capable of initiating prior authorization process.

Ability to:

Maintain workflow, promoting efficiency but ensuring patient safety above all.

Stay current on job trainings and important healthcare developments.

Multitask, cycling between different workstations to meet patient needs.

Participate in quality improvement measures, including alerting pharmacist of any erroneous events immediately.

Demonstrates the ability to navigate efficiently using GPS and route-planning tools to minimize delivery time and optimize routes.

Ability to drive for extended periods of time throughout Southern California, including high-traffic areas.

Ability to enter buildings, use stairs, and navigate varied physical environments when delivering medications to patients.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is primarily an office position and driving position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less. Also may require long lengths of time in a personal vehicle. The position also requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal and on paper.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid California driver’s license; proof of auto liability insurance; and have the use of a personal vehicle for work related purposes.
