Have a comprehensive understanding of compliance and safety, and be able to effectively communicate the importance of compliance and safety to other employees. Possess the ability and skills necessary to provide orientation and training for patient service technicians. This role involves working with pediatric patients under the supervision of the lab supervisor and team lead. The schedule predominantly involves 3rd shift hours from 10 pm to 6:30 am.Responsibilities
Perform blood collection by venipuncture and capillary techniques from patients of all age groups.
Handle pediatric blood collections and difficult draws in medical office buildings.
Understand and communicate compliance and safety protocols to other employees.
Provide orientation and training for patient service technicians.
Work under the supervision of the lab supervisor and team lead.
Essential Skills
Phlebotomy certification (CPT I License)
High School Diploma
Proficiency in venipuncture, neonatal, and inpatient phlebotomy.
Experience with lab systems (e.g., Cerner)
Customer service skills
At least six months to one year of experience in an acute or sub-acute setting with infant/neonatal experience.
Experience with pediatric patients.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Hospital experience is a plus.
Outpatient setting experience (e.g., LabCorp, Quest) - ability to draw 45-55 patients within an 8-hour shift.
Inpatient setting experience - ability to draw 20-30 patients within an 8-hour shift.
Excellent attendance and behavior record.
Flexibility with shifts and hours.
Ability to travel to multiple Medical Office Building labs (9 locations throughout South Orange County).
Work EnvironmentThis role involves working in high-volume medical office buildings (clinics) and, once permanent, transitioning to the main lab in a hospital. The draw stations are located in Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Foothill Ranch, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, Mission Viejo, and Tustin, CA. The work environment is fast-paced and requires excellent phlebotomy skills, particularly with pediatric and neonatal patients.
