ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is foundational to the success of the fast-paced Café environment. Highly skilled, organized, and detail-oriented, the prep/line cooks are responsible for preparing ingredients for our busy breakfast, lunch and dinner services. They also prepare and package all grab & go and grocery foods daily.

ABOUT THE TEAM:

The Kitchen Team at LAG&C is responsible for the creation of our hyper-seasonal menu items that not only inspire, but also offer convenience, as they can be easily taken home or enjoyed in our café. Our team’s goal is to run our kitchen and store with as little waste as possible and each team member is an active participant working toward the mission of exploring food systems in Los Angeles and beyond.

You possess the ability to support our chefs in a fast-paced environment that serves 3 meals a day by maintaining consistent operational standards. A willingness to learn and teach others around you. Timely and professional at all times. An efficiency expert, you thrive in a team environment, take your responsibilities seriously, have the ability to multitask, and think quickly on your feet. WHAT YOUR TYPICAL DAY WILL INCLUDE:

Complete opening/closing procedures.

Follow team daily prep lists created by kitchen managers.

Prepare and organize workstations.

Ensure all tools are in working order and stored properly after use.

Prepare raw ingredients according to recipes.

Prepare or cook parts of or whole dishes according to recipes and in cooperation with the entire kitchen team.

Portion food products according to standard portion sizes and recipes.

Label and store all prepared ingredients necessary for the day.

Ensure all “use first” food items are stored and organized so that they are easily identified.

Prepare with precision, package beautifully, and correctly label all grocery and grab & go items.

Ensure displays are full and product is rotated appropriately.

Anticipate team needs by constantly evaluating the environment.

Comply with health and sanitation guidelines.

Ensure daily production plan is complete.

Complete end of shift inventory, as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

1+ years of professional cooking/kitchen experience.

Working in a high volume establishment is a plus.

Proficient to expert level knife skills.

Understanding of all cooking methods.

Ability to produce foods consistently (i.e. taste, appearance, etc.)

Ability to multi-task and are able to maintain a sense of urgency.

Possess good time management skills.

Acute attention to detail when it comes to product quality, presentation and food safety.

Exemplifies workplace safety and health department standards.

Positive attitude that adjusts to improvement protocols easily.

Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Possess full body mobility (bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching).

Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, as needed.

JOB TYPE + COMPENSATION RANGE

Full-Time: 5 days a week / 8 hours a day

Part Time: 4 days a week / 8 hours a day

Part Time: 4-5 days a week / 6 hours a day

$19 - $22/hr w/ tips
