Within the Microsoft's Health and Life Science team (HLS) platform, the applied research team is a diverse and multi-disciplinary group of researchers, engineers and applied research scientists with a shared passion for empowering both 1P and 3P customers and advancing HLS AI research. We are currently looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our research platform and tooling team. By leveraging your expertise in software architecture, coding best practices, and fostering cross-functional collaboration, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of innovative solutions and tools to support HLS AI research efforts and facilitate the transition of research results into production.Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Understand user requirements by partnering with stakeholders and incorporating continuous feedback loops.

Design and implement the research components and tools to empower HLS research products/projects such as DAX.

Lead architecture discussions, create proposals for design documents, and ensure alignment with security and compliance requirements.

Lead by example in producing extensible and maintainable code across projects, optimizing performance and maintainability.

Review code to ensure adherence to coding standards, reliability, and scalability, and provide feedback to drive improvements, mentor team members.

Participate in continuous learning of AI and cloud technologies with a focus on engineering efficiency and security.

QualificationsRequred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

4+ years of experience designing and implementing complex, interdependent cloud-based software systems.

3+ years of experience implementing full stack Client/Server/UI systems.

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven track record of effective communication with stakeholders, leading design discussions, and driving projects to successful completion.

Familiar with Azure Data platform, Azure Blob storage, Cosmos DB.

Proficient in frontend development with expertise in Angular, TypeScript, and HTML5.

Proficient in C#, .NET and Python for back-end development or data analysis.

Experience working in fast-paced application development environments utilizing agile methodologies.

Growth mindset and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies to deliver impactful results.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
