Department Overview:

The IT Enterprise Integration team is responsible for the analysis, design, software development, testing and implementation of integration technology and solutions for PG&E. This team works closely with the enterprise architecture and our IT product teams and line of business to integration technology and services deployed are top quality and meet business and market demands. In addition, analysts and developers from each area support their clients by providing technical expertise in diagnosing system issues and working with vendors to provide a comprehensive solution.

Position Summary:

PG&E is seeking a Principal IT Solutions Engineer to support its enterprise integration platforms and solutions, EI, which the solutions and platform team for PG&E enterprise middleware. Enterprise Integration technologies integrate information quickly from many sources by providing common enterprise-wide infrastructure, tools and protocols.

Our primary lines-of business utilizes EI technologies. We support critical business functions, like Real-Time Integrations, Data transformations, Secure File Transfers and Business process automation. MuleSoft is our enterprise Integration Platform and plays an integral present and future integration roadmap.

We are seeking a candidate with a solid integration middleware, best practices in design and integration of end to end solutions. The successful candidate must have deep level knowledge of integration middleware, design patterns, and building reusable API's, integration components; a broad IT technology skill set, along with very strong communication and collaboration skills. The successful candidate will need to be able to lead and work in a matrix group environment.

Specific Job Responsibilities:
  • The Principal IT Solutions Engineer is responsible for developing the technical strategy, architecture, design and system application standards for the overall integration platforms.
  • Evaluates project requirements and produces solution blueprints that enable project teams to develop systems that are robust, flexible, scalable, secure, and that support enterprise strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, client portfolio leads and systems analysts to provide IT solutions that are consistent with Enterprise Standards, Architectures and Strategies.
  • Responsible for providing senior level expertise on decisions and priorities regarding the enterprise's overall integration system architecture
  • Develop and document integration and implementation changes to applicable integration middleware and technical standards.
  • Provides technical guidance to project and operational teams as appropriate
  • Responsible for researching and providing guidance on emerging technologies and industry trends to better serve the Integration Middleware for IT and business organizations
  • Regularly called upon to apply creativity or new approaches to technical and administrative assignments that may be unique.
  • May lead complex projects or tasks that require coordination across various IT and business disciplines.
  • Work closely with the Integration Development and Operations and Support teams in the maintenance and operation of the integration platforms.
  • Coordinate with Tech Arch, Infrastructure Services, PMO and related project teams in the on-going support of the integration applications and interfaces.
  • Deep level knowledge of MuleSoft and CI/CD tools and platforms.
  • Deep level understanding of system integration and infrastructure processes and procedures.
  • Expected to develop, propose, implement and promote continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related degree or equivalent experience
  • 10 Years of IT engineering, technical analysis, design, and/or architecture related work with strategic thinking and presence
  • 7 years of solution architecture and project implementation experience.
  • Expert in the solution architecture discipline, processes, concepts and best practices
  • Exposure to a process improvement discipline (e.g. Six Sigma) used within a technology supported business process implementation
  • Process design, information modeling and / or system solution architecture development with project or portfolio focus in at least one of the following: Application Architecture, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Information Architecture, Data Management, Security, or Infrastructure technologies
  • Operational support for applications, systems, or infrastructure
  • Experience with enterprise architecture tools
  • Experience providing direction to design and engineering staff
  • Experience providing direction to one or more architects

Desired
  • MA/MS degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in working with cross functional teams, both in IT and with business
  • Experience managing and directing staff across diverse IT disciplines Good knowledge and understanding of MuleSoft Cloud Hub and Run Time Fabric - strongly desired
  • Proven ability to be flexible with managing numerous issues and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-visibility work environment (with multiple stakeholders who sometimes have competing priorities)

Technical Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of API/integration principles, patterns and best practices
  • Experience implementing integration solutions using APIs and web services technologies
  • Understanding of cloud concepts including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and iPaaS
  • Understanding of MuleSoft Anypoint platform capabilities (Design, Management and Monitoring Center, Exchange)
  • Understanding of infrastructure concepts such as networking, VPC, VPN, Load balancers
  • Understanding of security concepts such as identity management, authentication, authorization
  • Experience delivering solutions in agile way
  • Understanding of DevOps / CI / CD
