Program Manager, Research and Strategy for Global Automotive Manufacturer

Position Summary:An incredible opportunity is available for a bilingual English and Japanese Program Manager with an innovative, automotive company. The Program Manager, Research and Strategy should be well-versed in technology and business strategy. Another key part of this position is to be highly skilled in compiling persuasive reports in both Japanese and English to effectively communicate the potential external opportunities that align with the company’s strategic objectives. The role will work closely with internal stakeholders (including business development and engineering teams) to conduct market research and analyze potentially transformative opportunities and innovations from the startup community. The candidate will take the lead in guiding this process and compiling executive briefs and collateral to shape partnership strategies, communicate the potential of investment and acquisition opportunities, and deliver critical messages to company executives.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct market research in both English and Japanese on the latest trends in startups, venture capital and technology.
  • Negotiate and communicate with company location in Japan and outside vendors.
  • Provide detailed information after interpreting content, will put documents and presentations together in Japanese and/ or English.
  • Produce startup landscape reports summarizing these trends and their applicability to the company’s current business and future strategy.
  • Liaise closely with internal stakeholders to share insights and key findings, develop a point of view, and build consensus on high-priority strategic areas.
  • Synthesize findings to produce clear and compelling briefs and collateral materials in Japanese to communicate the potential of startup partnership, investment, and acquisition opportunities.
  • Data collection from multiple sources, extract content for weekly meetings, summarize content of transmission and translate from English to Japanese.
  • Perform ad hoc research to support internal business units.
  • Will join a small group and meet with executives from Japan.
  • Domestic/International travel 20%-30%. Once offices reopen.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in market research, trend analysis, and opportunity landscaping.
  • Strong understanding of Japanese culture in the business world.
  • Solid understanding of innovation ecosystems, startups, and venture capital.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills and an ability to interpret data and present cohesive recommendations.
  • Insight in current industry development and intends for future development related to business.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English.
  • Experience working in Japan or other foreign companies in Japan, must understand culture in the business world.
  • Previous experience crafting and delivering effective research briefs and executive communications.
  • Technical minded and offers extensive knowledge of the innovative technology industry.
  • Self-sufficient in research and has an overall interest and natural curiosity in technology.
  • Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple research initiatives in parallel while maintaining a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Deep knowledge or intellectual curiosity about technology. Experience in transportation, energy, and robotics is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Battery systems, AI, Autonomous is a plus
  • Responsibility to provide information after interpreting content, will be working with a team and must comprehend whatever that information was from the team, put it all together in a doc or presentation.
  • Skills to provide accurate information in the right place, cannot be late for projects, must ensure proper communication with team.
  • Motivated team player with the ability to work with diverse, cross-functional teams.
  • Highly proactive with an ability to adapt to dynamic circumstances.

Location: Mountain View, CA or Remote

Travel: 20-30% travel after offices reopen
