The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research driven outreach or creative project in any academic discipline. The Project Scientist may be an ongoing member of a research driven outreach team within the COE or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific program. Project Scientists are not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Ordinarily, the Project Scientist title will carry out research driven outreach or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day project operations with supervisionDepartment and/or unit specific – essential job responsibilities:

This position is responsible for overall and day-to-day management to implement and evaluate the Empowering Local Communities to End the Tobacco Epidemic program.

Provides oversight of the SOW.

Works closely with grant office and to oversee budget, progress reports, and invoices.

Communicates with funder regularly to meet necessary requirements and address challenges.

Oversees maintenance of required programmatic documents for auditing purposes.

Implements evaluation activities.

Monitors the data collection and analysis aspects of research projects for quality, effectiveness, and consistency.

Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection for Community Outreach and Engagement’s tobacco control initiatives.

Assist’s Associate Director for COE and PI in conducting data analysis for this project.

Assists in preparation of publications, technical reports, competitive funding proposals, peer-reviewed journal articles for developing, new, and ongoing studies in collaboration with AD for COE and PI.

Extract insights from data to help drive policy initiatives.

Demonstrates superb analytical and problem solving skills, and an ability to deeply understand the “why” and “how” of what we are working on.

Self-starter who will see opportunities to apply capabilities that add value throughout the organization

Ability to be a leader and mentor

Work in a highly collaborative environment to brainstorm, design, implement and deliver solutions.

What will you be doing:

May assist in preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications and presentations and may contribute to generating grant funds.

May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.

May develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols.

Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.

May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows.

Will assist in day-to-day activities.

PhD or highest degree in their field.

Completion of postdoctoral appointment in area of specialization, as applicable. Knowledge of and demonstrated competency in research driven outreach and policy work in the area of tobacco control.

2+ years of experience working in tobacco policy and control programs
