This position will collaborate with the Engineering department of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Organizational Unit. This person will work with other engineers to support capital projects, initiatives and resolve various protection related technical problems with innovative solutions. Perform system studies, provide protection requirements for design, review and approvals of one-line, elementary/schematics, logic diagrams.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines - substation engineers, distribution field engineers, project engineers, apparatus engineers - to support sub transmission and distribution substation expansion, substation automation and infrastructure replacement projects.
Gather and evaluate line data of transmission, sub-transmission, distribution systems, transformer test data, generator data; model systems on appropriate software tools (e.g. CAPE, CYME) for short circuit studies and coordination studies.
Design relay settings and perform other required assignments to meet WECC and NERC PRC compliance.
Issue settings for substation relays and field Auto reclosers (GE, SEL and Electromechanical) via ASPEN relay database to the field, support Test technicians in-servicing or commissioning relay settings, review/approve returned as-left relay setting files and communicate with Test technicians to revise relay settings as necessary.
Analyze fault related events using historical data such as DFR traces, digital relay records, or related data.
Review and analyze daily relay operations for determining correct operation or mis-operation in responding to an electrical system disturbance or anomalies. Make appropriate recommendation/resolution for mitigation to Operations, and report to internal Edison external organizations.
Occasionally travel to the field for project job walks, commissioning or testing needs.
The essentials
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Two or more years of engineering experience.
One of more years of Electric Utility industry Engineering experience within Transmission and Distribution.
The preferred
Four or more years of experience in Electrical engineering environment.
Experience with Computer Aided Protection Engineering (CAPE), CYME, ASPEN relay database and Blue Beam software.
Proven ability with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project).
Experience with interpreting engineering standards and applying system protection knowledge to design electrical one-line, elementary/schematics, protection logic diagrams.
Familiarity with performing system studies, symmetrical component analysis, fault calculation, and setting Electromechanical Relays, SEL and GE microprocessor relays using Accelerator and URPC software.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

Position will require up to 20% travel for local visits between SCE facilities & substations.
