"What's it like to work at Agilent in R&D? Watch the video"

Agilent inspires and supports discoveries that advance the quality of life. We provide life science, diagnostic and applied market laboratories worldwide with instruments, services, consumables, applications and expertise. Agilent enables customers to gain the answers and insights they seek so they can do what they do best: improve the world around us. Information about Agilent is available at www.agilent.com.

As an electrical engineer in Agilent's Mass Spectrometry Division, you will join a multidisciplinary R&D team developing high-resolution mass spectrometers coupled to liquid- and gas-chromatography systems (LC/MS and GC/MS instruments) with applications ranging from food safety to biopharma research.

Your work will span the product development lifecycle, with a primary focus on designing, building, and testing circuits based on models and simulations. You'll also work with scientists and engineers to characterize prototype hardware and ensure that the final designs meet thorough quality standards and pass regulatory compliance testing. You'll work with the Manufacturing team to ramp up production and rapidly solve issues as they arise, and you'll support released products with continued improvements in collaboration with Product Support and Field Service Engineers.

The ideal candidate will be adept with circuit design and simulation tools and have experience with high voltage RF & DC supplies. Knowledge of electron/ion optics including charged particle detection is preferred, and familiarity with vacuum systems is a plus. Good organizational and communication skills are critical, as is a "can-do", collaborative attitude focused on team success. You must also be capable of working independently, as well as creating, tracking, and meeting schedules and development plans.

Responsibilities:
  • Design analog, digital, and mixed signal printed circuit assemblies (PCAs) including high voltage amplifiers or power supplies.
  • Perform circuit simulations, create schematics, and lay out printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Work with an interdisciplinary engineering team to incorporate your designs into complete instruments, while ensuring compatibility with other modules, system control, and onboard diagnostics.
  • Perform verification testing on initial prototypes and complete systems to demonstrate instrument performance and regulatory compliance until the successful transition to manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze technical issues in depth to understand core problems and provide sound solutions.
  • Create documentation (e.g. block diagrams, theory of operations, simulation and test results) at each phase of product development.
