This is an entry level position in which employees follow prescribed procedures and conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems and components. The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) program and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements at our manufacturing facility, located in Joliet and when requested, providing PSM program assistance to other plants or facilities within the network. Responsibilities: Supports the guiding principles of Responsible Care to continually improve Clearing’s plant’s safety, health, environmental performance, process safety, security, and efforts to respond to public concerns relating to design, development, manufacture, storage, marketing, distribution, use and ultimate safe disposal of chemical products. Maintains and updates the Clearing Plant Risk Management Plan (RMP). The PSM Specialist coordinates submittal of plan updates with the EPA and local governmental agencies. Develops PSM procedures, maintains existing procedures, and ensures their appropriate use at the Clearing Plant. These procedures include, but are not limited to, Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Incident Investigation, and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). The PSM Specialist may also coordinate and schedule PHA sessions with third-party contractors for large projects. Manages and leads incident investigations and root cause analysis (RCA) as needed. Monitors adequacy and closure of corrective action items related to incident investigations, RCAs, audits, PHA recommendations, MOC action plans, agency inspections, etc. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to deal with various levels of employees, management, vendors, and customers Certifications such as CSP, PSP, PE, etc. are preferred. Completion of the 5-day TapRoot incident investigation process training is a strong plus.
