Scientist II (Assay Reagents Development)

Job Description

To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, the Technology Development Team is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to develop, test, and improve existing and new technologies for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing. At Guardant, we leverage the most advanced technologies and work with leaders in many different fields to create the most impactful and meaningful technologies for cancer management.

As a Scientist supporting product and technology development, you will work with members within the team and interface with multiple teams including process engineering, clinical operations, bioinformatics, quality control and regulatory affairs. You will be hands-on in the lab and be involved in the design, implementation and validation of new technologies related to liquid and/or tissue biopsy sequencing assays for the detection, treatment, and monitoring of all cancer types.

• Work in a team environment and independently to develop, test, and improve sample isolation and preparation technologies for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing
• Think creatively and apply knowledge to design experiments and analyze data for NGS applications in oncology diagnostics
• Be highly committed and deliver results in a fast-paced start-up environment
• Transfer new technologies into production environments, write supporting documentation including experiment protocols and reports, SOPs, Specifications, and change requests
• Design and perform experiments to develop and improve our assay workstreams
• Lead in troubleshooting efforts with our Tech Dev team and among other teams and capture lessons learned
• Engage in technologies from early design of products to support after they are transferred
• Present data, proposals, and progress in various forums to technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in molecular biology techniques and NGS assay development, exemplified by publications, patent applications, or previous product development experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of nucleic acid sample isolation, preparation, and NGS sequencing technologies
• Data analysis skills with experience in bioinformatics and in handling large datasets
• Experience with liquid handling platforms is a plus
• Experience with product development in a regulated environment is a plus
• Consummate team player: demonstrated ability to contribute to an environment where numerous contributions are required to accomplish complex goals.
• Excellent interdisciplinary communication skills required
• Enjoy working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and able to adapt to change
• Highly motivated and responsible self-starter and independent problem solver
• Self-driven and curious

• BA/BS with a minimum of 6years of industry experience; MA/MS with a minimum of 4years of industry experience, Ph.D. with a minimum of 2years of industry experience OR Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years of post-doc
• Preferably experiencein Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry
• 2+ years of related work experience preferred

Additional Information

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
