Role

The Senior Accountant at Guardant Health, reporting to the Accounting Manager, will be a key addition to the accounting organization as Guardant Health continues to grow its footprint around the world. The finance team serves as trusted advisors for all our strategic and enterprise endeavors and works closely with business partners daily. Intrinsic motivation, curiosity, persistence, and collaboration will be critical to thrive in this role. You will partner and problem-solve with colleagues across several business teams; therefore, strong interpersonal communication skills are required, both written and verbal.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Accountant, you have in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, proficiency in accounting systems, and strong motivation to contribute to the achievement of an efficient monthly, quarterly, annual close and financial reporting process. You pay great attention to detail and the ability to deliver results under deadlines as well as working effectively cross functionally in a rapidly changing environment. In addition, you should be able to thoughtfully identify business needs, collaborate with others and build processes that help lead our ability to scale.

  • Participate in month-end close, creating and posting journal entries, performing account reconciliations, analyzing accounting transactions and meeting all required reporting deadlines. Areas of focus: Clinical, Legal and General Accruals and Allocations.
  • Collaborate with FP&A, suppliers, and other cross-functional departments to develop and maintain robust processes which ensure the completeness and accuracy of accruals.
  • Proactively examine purchase orders to assess percentage of completion or timing of delivery of goods or services.
  • Perform trend analysis on assigned income statement and balance sheet accounts and ensure all significant fluctuations are properly explained and supported.
  • Develop, implement, and document new policies and procedures to enhance the workflow of the department and the company.
  • Assist in quarterly and annual auditors’ and SOX reviews and provide reconciliation support to help facilitate an optimal audit process.
  • Coordinate and resolve issues of accounting matters with other internal and external personnel within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with Company accounting policies and the application of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Serve as back-up on month-end duties assigned to other team members.
  • Utilize ERP to obtain and analyze complex financial information. Confer with technical teams to design and develop reports.
  • As necessary, contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned and perform independent and objective project analysis to support management with decision-making process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics required. CPA with Big 4 public accounting experience a plus.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in a public company required.

Proven the ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships that establish trust, credibility, and confidence.   • Must have large ERP systems experience (Oracle Fusion a plus).
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, SOX and SEC reporting.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including vlookups, sumif formulas and pivot tables required.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities. Ability to influence others and earn respect of team and business partners.
  • Experience building out processes, procedures, and workflows that enable sustainable scaling of the business.
  • Ability to effectively work across teams and levels, both within the accounting functions, and across functions, including Tax, Supply Chain, Facilities, IT and senior leadership.
  • Ability to analyze and write commentary to explain results/variances in a concise and clear manner.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, ability to link information together, and solution-oriented individual.
  • Self-motivated individual with demonstrated experience and continuous desire in improving and streamlining processes.
  • Must be adaptable, agile, able to multi-task and take on additional responsibilities as necessary.
  • Possesses energy, enthusiasm to drive results, action oriented.
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency towards attaining department goals, issue resolution and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a creative, dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and resources effectively, while meeting deadlines and delivering quality work.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in a matrixteam environment, shifting between the role of an individual contributor, team player and project manager.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies up to 20 lbs and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.
