Job Description: Our client, a large defense contractor, has an immediate opening for a Senior Advanced Test Engineer to work from their Irvine, CA facility. It's an exceptional challenge and for a true leader, it's an equally exceptional opportunity. The Senior Advanced Test Engineer will support the planning of technical approaches, resources, schedules, budgets and equipment required for the testing and evaluating of new systems, products and special devices. Utilizing your expert knowledge and understanding of test engineering concepts and principles, you'll prepare test and diagnostic programs, design test fixtures and equipment, and complete specifications and procedures throughout the engineering development lifecycle

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related Science or Mathematics field. Also requires 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience. Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

What you bring to the table:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
  • Expert knowledge and experience with object-oriented programming, system processes and scripting languages
  • Openly contributes to the development of new theories and methods to enhance productivity and efficiency, solicits input, and optimizes solutions
  • Ability and willingness to help anticipate and shape business opportunities
  • Outstanding communication skills for frequent contact with managers, project teams across the company and external customers and vendors

Responsibilities:

Support all MFG activities and engineering associates on NPI projects. Perform a variety of duties as the test department lead as listed below:
  • Experience in debug and test of base and and RF electronics
  • Use of complex electronic test equipment including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, RF signal generators, and waveform analyzers
  • Ability to read and understand electrical engineering drawings, including schematics, layouts and other technical documents
  • Practical skills should include miniature surface mount soldering under microscopes
  • Hands-on skills to disassemble and re-assemble complex electronic devices
  • Implement test set-ups, perform tests, collects results, and maintain appropriate logs
  • Experience of RF communications such as COFDM, WiFi, or LTE would be a strong advantage
  • Provide technical expertise in problem analysis and solutions utilizing complex instrumentation and software
  • Assist in the development of new/revised product and programs
  • Technical support lead in the development of prototypes
  • Trainer for less skilled technical personnel
  • Can be expected to lead, direct, organize Technician work
  • Work with associates and other departments and participates in cross-functional relationships
  • Develop test specifications and procedures as required
  • Prepares reports, documentation/specifications as required
  • Helps to manage daily/weekly/monthly priorities with test team members flowed down by Operations supervisor/planner
  • Manages workload in test department with weekly updates to Manager by using daily production report and direction from Operations Supervisor
  • Moves material within Oracle ERP system once completed with test functions
