One thing is for sure, being part of ICF’s cultural resources team is # neverboring .ICF is currently seeking a Senior Archaeologist to support our Southern California cultural resources practice. This position is intended to be based in the San Diego, CA office, however it can be fully or partially remote, and applicants living throughout southern CA are encouraged to apply. The mid-career archaeologist should be comfortable working across the primary disciplines that comprise cultural resources management (archaeology, built environment, tribal resources, landscapes) and comfortably navigate between preparing technical studies and CEQA/NEPA/Section 106 environmental documentation.Job DescriptionAs a Senior Archaeologist at ICF you will lead and/or contribute to cultural resources studies as either stand-alone CRM projects or as part of larger multi- disciplinary environmental projects or programs. Technical duties will include conducting background research, field survey, and eligibility evaluation and documenting the results in technical reports suitable for agency and SHPO consultation. You will combine your archaeology technical skills with strong regulatory compliance expertise to develop project-level analysis and programmatic solutions for CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 reviews. You will also be expected to contribute to marketing and proposal efforts for cultural resources opportunities or as part of a larger team on multi-disciplinary opportunities. The mid-career archaeologist will work closely with other senior archaeologists and historic preservation planners on project work, with opportunities to direct and mentor early career team members. Position available based out of our San Diego or Irvine offices; Hybrid, and fully remote will be considered.Key Responsibilities
Provide analysis for environmental regulatory reviews under CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 and compose defensible arguments and supporting documentation.
Lead and coordinate technical work in archaeology or related technical areas.
Evaluate resources for eligibility for listing in the National Register and California Register.
Write and produce technical reports or documents.
Collaborate with cultural resources colleagues toward an integrated landscape approach to cultural resources investigations.
Develop resource management recommendations and assess project effects on resources.
Required Skills/Experience
Master’s degree in anthropology or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in cultural resources management.
Minimum of 3 years of experience with cultural resource regulatory compliance.
Preferred Skills/Experience
Registered professional archaeologist
Cultural specializations such as landscape preservation, Tribal engagement, geoarchaeology, or public history/archaeology.
A history working with private-sector and public sector clients, as well as regulatory agencies.
Familiarity with Southern California cultural resources and associated regulatory environment.
Working knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, NHPA, and other state and federal environmental regulations.
Development and management of project budgets, schedules, and QA/QC procedures.
Experience in business development, proposal preparation, and marketing
Use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
