Job Description Senior Director, Cloud Software Engineering

The Senior Director of Cloud Software Engineering will lead and manage the technology teams building world class cloud native software capabilities and migrate on-Prem applications to public cloud. You will serve as a leader in the Commercial and Private Bank Technology team and work closely with the technology leadership team to drive overall cloud adoption for the division. You will collaborate closely with teamsacross the organization to provide strategic direction and guidance to support rapidly evolving public cloud application landscape.

Job Description

As a senior leader to guiding Commercial and Private Bank Cloud Migration Team, you will be at the forefront of SVB's Cloud Transformation journey and for building resilient business applications in public cloud. As a Senior Cloud migration leader, you will lead team of cloud engineers to migrate Commercial and Private Bank applications to AWS, and in the process, enriching our client experience with highly available, resilient and performant applications.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of 15+ talented cloud software engineers
  • Analyze existing on-prem applications' architecture, develop cloud compatible solutions, and migrate applications to AWS.
  • Leverage various cloud application migration strategies such as Re-platforming, Re-hosting and Re-architecting applications based on the enterprise technology strategy
  • Ability to develop new applications and deploy in AWS cloud in multi-region, multi-AZ distributed systems
  • Envision, Design and Build end-to-end Observability for Applications running on AWS Platform
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to develop and deploy applications using Gitlab, Terraform, AWS services and methodologies
  • Ensure security is integrated into all cloud architecture solutions
  • Develop and migrate mission critical services to public cloud and build automated testing, deployment and release processes
  • Have full oversight into changes going into production, asset tagging, cost and capacity analysis, vulnerability, and patch management
  • Partner closely with peer engineering leaders to ensure, we operate as a single team
  • Proven leadership with ability to lead multiple teams in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment
  • A willingness to mentor people inside/outside of the Information Technology department on best practices, system design principles, and industry trends
  • Demonstrated ability to bring the benefits of technology to solve business issues while also managing costs and risk
  • Able to influence decisions at various levels of corporate management
  • Excellent written, oral communication skills and strong negotiating skills

Technical Skills:
  • Experience leading teams to build solutions on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, VPC, SNS, SQS, Lambda, Dynamo DB, RDS, Redshift, Glue etc.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers to leverage Terraform and contribute new Terraform templates for reuse across organization
  • Experience in leading teams in developing solutions in Java, node, react or DotNet languages
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Maven, GitLab, SonarQube in the cloud environment
  • A leader capable of managing high performance teams, flexibility in a dynamic working environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline recommended
  • 10+ years of application engineering experience
  • AWS Certification in Developer or Solution Architect is preferred
  • 2-5 years of demonstrated experience in designing and developing complex distributed IT solutions (e.g., cloud, distributed systems or high-performance computing experience)
