DescriptionHave you wanted an opportunity to lead a software team in an advanced satellite broadband telecom service?This is a Senior Software Development Engineer role in Project Kuiper, Payload Platform software team, responsible for driving the research, development and deployment of the Satellite and Ground gateway Payload software systems. Our software controls forwarding of customer and control communications across the satellite and ground gateway to enable connectivity between satellites and the ground gateways and customer terminals, and also provides device drivers and services for managing redundancy, and availability.Key job responsibilitiesAs a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for identifying top level requirements and participate in all phases of embedded software development, from concept and design to development and maintenance. You will work with other members of the Kuiper team to support hardware bring-up and debug, and develop production software. You must be comfortable leading software and architecture design reviews, ensuring Amazon’s high development standards are met and team best practices are followed.

Have in-depth knowledge with real-time embedded software philosophies and practices

Knowledge of Operating Sytem kernel internals (process scheduler, memory management, concurrency/synchronization, memory allocation, file systems) and networking subsystems architecture

Strong debugging skills in kernel context

Developing embedded software in assembly, C/C, Rust or other languages, code for embedded cores in an ASIC/Network Processor (including hardware drivers).

Knowledge of low-level communications, PCIe, Ethernet, SPI and I2C would be desirable.

You will work in a collaborative environment with teams inside and outside of Amazon. You will mentor a team of software engineers on best practices while you guide your software designs from requirements gathering through mass production. 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

5+ years of hands-on experience in Embedded systems software.

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market.
