Job Description

Exelixis is seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting to manage and actively participate in the accounting cycle to ensure that the accounting processes are timely, accurate, efficient, and consistent. The ideal candidate should have strong general accounting and analytical skills, be able to multi-task and perform the job function under minimal supervision as well as possess excellent communication skills. This individual should be detail-oriented, highly ethical team player with a positive attitude, showing a willingness to learn and take on challenges in a fast-paced environment. This position will play an active role in the financial close process and review of month-end journal entries which includes R&D and SG&A expense accruals, prepaids and allocations.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities which include review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement analysis. Participate and present financial results in the management financial review meetings. Manage the day-to-day accounting operations which include timeliness and completeness of close tasks in FloQast as well as provide suggestions for improvements to maximize accuracy and efficiency of accounting processes. Develop and mentor accounting staff to build their professional career and maximize potential. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational innovation and regularly interact with business owners and senior level management on accounting. Support scaling our processes through automation by working on system implementations and enhancements. Collaborate with external auditors during the quarterly review, interim and year-end audit. Ensure SOX compliance with internal control policies. Participate in other projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide direction to other individuals. Supervises staff, including hiring, scheduling and assigning work, reviewing performance, andrecommends salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and eight years of related experience; or Master’s degree in related discipline and six years of related experience; or, CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

Experience/The Ideal Candidate will have: Experience in Auditing/Accounting. Experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries preferred.

Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrated ownership, problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong attention to details and ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines. Strong knowledge of US GAAP. Leadership skills with an ability to mentor a team and coach a team to success. Strong verbal and written communication skills needed to interface and establish rapport with all levels of the organization. Comfort and experience in a fast-paced environment. Results and goal-oriented mindset with an opportunistic eye towards driving continuous improvements. Systems oriented, experience with SAP ERP system preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: primarily working indoors, performing clerical work
