Maxar is seeking a Materials and Process Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. As part of the Product Assurance group, we are responsible for the selection and qualification of all EEE parts and materials for Maxar's LEO, GEO and special purpose Spacecrafts. Our group also writes the high-level space related process requirements for Maxar. This role is specifically oriented toward contamination control engineering. As a diverse group of engineers, the role may involve learning and mastering metallurgy, composites and other materials properties and the processes required to qualify these materials for a variety of space applications.

In this role, you will be a member of the Parts, Materials and Processes team. The team is responsible for all EEE parts, all materials and process used to build a variety of space vehicles. You will be responsible for the investigation and approval of different types of materials and will investigate and resolve issues that may arise during the use of already approved materials. This approval of materials or investigation of issues may also involve travel to various places around the world to complete the task. To be successful in this position, you must be able to work well with others, communication effectively and be able to fully document the issues and resolution. You should be a self-starter and be pro-active to reach out to other Maxar employees to learn and improve the company and the hardware.

  • Hands on person - capable of understanding the issues and properties of materials and use sound engineer practices to find appropriate solutions to the materials issues.
  • Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills, which include customer communication and technical writing
  • Ability to wok methodically to identify issues and develop solutions

Responsibilities:
  • Defining and implementing various contamination control requirements
  • Write and review materials procurement documents
  • Define and implement materials testing
  • Investigate and solve issues with existing material usage
  • Work within a team and be flexible to take on tasks outside of your comfort zone

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must = or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or other related field. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 8 years of related work experience
  • 5 or more years work experience with and analyzing material properties
  • 5 or more years work experience in the contamination control field for Space
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn how to use custom database programs

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
