The Senior Mechanical Engineer reports to the Team Lead of Ride & Show Engineering and will work on designs of our engineering projects at the Disneyland Resort (DLR) supporting and partnering with other groups in the implementation and completion of these efforts. You will lead specific engineering projects which may include added capacity, improved maintainability, performance optimization, and overall attraction improvement. Projects will be focused on mechanical solutions with an emphasis on materials selection, strength and fatigue design and calculations, pneumatic and hydraulic optimization, and internal and industry standards alignment. Most efforts will require close collaboration with our partners from DLR's Design Assurance, Ride Control, Sustaining, and Project Management groups.
You Will:On any given day, as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you might:- Plan out the technical aspects of Engineering projects.
- Prepare company-compliant engineering test scopes, plans, and reports (e.g. Acceptance Testing and Performance Testing) and perform testing and writing of test reports.
- Supervise the completion of Ride & Show Engineering or Sustaining Projects assigned to the cast member.
- Perform ride element performance analysis: finite element analysis, structural, dynamic, kinematic, hydraulic, and pneumatic analysis, and calculations for any Attraction changes to support compliance with California ride law requirements.
- Help resolve technical issues encountered in design/drawing packages with vendors and shops to ensure conformance with design documentation.
- Provide engineering recommendations, with the proposed action and suggested priorities, for resolving attraction operational and mechanical problems.
- Provide creation and review of engineering design, change, repair, and disposition documents.
- Lead technical design reviews.
- Perform field testing.
- Support field installation/inspection.
- Work with vendors supporting manufacturing and installation of mechanical projects.
- Develop scope for attraction reliability improvement efforts - design, install, testing, documentation, and closeout.
- Work during off-hours/3rd shift hours/weekends/holidays to support projects/attractions when needed.
- 5+ Mechanical Engineering experience in a design and fabrication environment.
- Experience in component selection and specifications (e.g. bearings, motors, gearbox).
- Solidworks/AutoCAD experience.
- Experience documenting technical concepts in writing.
- Experience relating sophisticated issues to non-technical peers and management.
- 5+ years' experience working in a multi-discipline, technical team environment including mechanical and controls engineers.
- Proficiency in performing and reviewing hazard and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) Knowledge gained by experience in Machine Design, fatigue analysis, Finite element analysis, Hazard analysis/failure modes and effects analysis.
- Bachelor of Science from ABET-accredited engineering program in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of shown engineering experience.
- Professional training in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Matlab, MathCAD and Finite Element programs such as ANSYS or Solidworks Simulation
- Post Graduate Work in engineering or technical field is preferred.
