Job Description

The hands-on Senior Scientist II will support the in vivo pharmacology research program and contribute to the multidisciplinary research team by designing and executing in vivo studies to determine pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics relationships and efficacy of optimized leads. The successful candidate will be a highly creative scientist with a strong desire to succeed at the highest level. This individual will have strong knowledge and experience in setting up tumor models in animals and incorporate the latest technologies into Pharmacology functions. Will assume shared responsibility for the management and development of the Pharmacology laboratory as part of the PD/Efficacy team.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Plan, design and implement animal studies of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and efficacy for lead optimization programs under general supervision

· Utilize literature and internal data sets to design and test hypotheses for drug targets.

· Represent Pharmacology function on discovery teams and lead sub-teams.

· Provide scientific support for the project teams and Discovery/ Pharmacology staffs.

· Prepare technical reports for research findings and IND filings.

· Collaborate with the IACUC committee to ensure compliance with internal policies and animal welfare regulations.

· Compliance with IACUC protocols and AAALAC regulations in conducting general research duties within assigned area of responsibility

· Prepare and organize data for presentation using analysis and visualization software; present data and reports on project status at individual, group, and departmental research meetings under general supervision

· Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature relevant to the research experiments or program

· Maintain laboratory notebook in a complete, consistent, and concise manner in accordance with company intellectual property policies and practices

· Adhere to good health and safety practices and compliance with applicable EH&S rules and participate in mandatory safety training programs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provide direction to other individuals.

· Supervises staff, including hiring, scheduling and assigning work, reviewing performance, and

recommends salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Cellular Biology or a closely related field with fifteen years of industry experience; or,
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Cellular Biology or a closely related field with thirteen years of industry experience; or,
  • PhD in Pharmacology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Cellular Biology or a closely related field with three to six years of industry experience after post-doctoral trainings; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • A broad understanding of in vitro and in vivo Pharmacology, PK, PD concepts within the cancer biology field is essential.
  • Extensive experience using in vivo oncology models for drug discovery with proven track record in establishing, validating and implementing animal models for testing cancer therapies including xenograft, syngeneic, genetically engineered mouse, orthotopic, PDX and humanized models to study biologic mechanisms.
  • Proven track record of writing regulatory and IND filing documents in the pre-clinical Pharmacology section.
  • Proven track record of good experimental design, in-depth data analysis and interpretation based on strong scientific rationale.
  • Expertise in cell culture with aseptic technique is a must.
  • Experience in utilizing imaging modalities in tumor research is desired.
  • Experience with immunophenotyping of cells from in vivo studies is preferred.

· Strong scientific expertise with good track records of publications.

· Managerial experience related in in-vivo pharmacology personnel is required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

· Excellent data analysis skills and experience with a variety of scientific software applications

· Strong communication skills, excellent work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to work effectively in a either a team environment or independently

· Has flexibility to accommodate to fast-paced work environment and deadlines

· A broad understanding of in vitro and in vivo Pharmacology, PK, and PD concepts within the cancer biology field is essential

· Ability to adapt to changing work conditions

· In vivo skills include but not limited to animal handing, dosing with different routes, blood/tissue collection, perfusion, necropsy, tumor measurement, clinical observation, rodent survival surgeries, and imaging modalities

· Understanding of regulatory requirements to run an in vivo facility

· Advanced knowledge of MS office, PDF, GraphPad prism and ELN notebook is required. Capability of using Studylog is preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Environment: primarily working in laboratories or in office

· Regular interaction with BSL2-level cell lines and animal tissues/fluids
