In this vital role you will be responsible for developing innovative solutions to drive our small molecule pipeline. This Senior Scientist will be part of an innovative team, with responsibilities including (but not limited to) the design of synthetic routes to support the scale-up of intermediates and novel compounds for potential clinical drug development.
Develops and implements robust synthetic strategies to access intermediates and APIs on scales ranging from grams to kilograms
Champions innovative applications of technology (High Throughput Experimentation, Flow chemistry, electrochemistry) to solve challenging synthetic problems.
Serves as a technical expert and keeps current in organic chemistry and applications of process technology in pharmaceutical development including literature and technology development.
Improves the technical or scientific capabilities of the department and routinely answers questions on or resolves scientific/technical issues.
Collaborates in cross-functional teams to develop Amgen’s pipeline.
Ability and desire to lead synthetic route scouting and drive new technology development.

Doctorate degree with relevant experience
OR
Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate degree specializing in organic synthesis
Post-doctoral research experience or relevant industrial experience, especially in process development
Deep understanding of synthetic organic chemistry concepts and proven track record of addressing complex chemistry problems
Proven track record of academic and professional accomplishments (i.e., peer-reviewed publications and/or patents)
Demonstration of good lab practices, with particular attention to safety
Clear understanding of structural determination using NMR and mass spectral techniques as well as knowledge of related purification methods
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
