The application window is expected to close on: 2/21/25 This position requires that you work at the San Jose, CA office 5 days per week as the role requires lab work. Meet the TeamCisco enterprise and cloud networking SI team is seeking a SerDes characterization engineer for the full characterization of SerDes IP for 112G+ SerDes speeds. You will be a member of the CHG (Common Hardware Group) signal integrity team developing the Next Generations of Cisco Switch products, and participate in the evaluation of SerDes IP, channel building in the lab using next-gen advanced materials, cable performance measurements using precision measurement equipment. This work is key in the definition and design of current and next-generation ASIC, package, printed circuit board (PCB), and system interconnects. You will work in a larger team and work closely with system architects, logic designers, ASIC engineers, package engineers, and other versatile and knowledgeable SI/PI engineers in the creation of next-generation networking products.Your Impact

Working directly with SI/PI engineers, vendors, Serdes IP teams to evaluate the performance trade-offs for various SerDes evaluations.

Drive next generation of SerDes IP characterization

Define test plans to evaluate unique SerDes IP speeds over specific channels per Cisco interconnect needs.

Drive next-generation channel models using state of art material, connectors & coupon boards.

Drive PCB material characterization for high-speed SerDes signals

Drive cable vendor measurements and report generation for 112/224Gbps speeds.

Debug issues during IP bring up, VT margining & evaluation of interconnects and IP.

Minimum Qualifications

4+ years of related experience which could include a combination of a BSEE, or equivalent, relevant/transferable professional work, and/or classroom learning.

Ability to read board files and do lab rework.

Strong understanding of SerDes characterization and channel modeling.

Strong hands-on lab skills and measurement experience (VNA, TDR & Scopes).

Experience working on 112Gbps SerDes evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

Self-motivation, collaboration, strong communication, and a desire to innovate are important.

Working experience with high-speed NRZ and PAM4 SerDes and understanding of 802.3DJ standard

Knowledge of PCC/DAC, optical transceiver module types, form factors, and requirements.

Working experience in PCB material characterization for high-speed SerDes signals

112G/224G cable performance measurement experience.

Ability to manage servers, and deal with network issues.

Cross-functional team experience.

Knowledge of channel-building tools after material evaluation like ADS or Simbeor.
