Position Summary:

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. The Enterprise Student Management System (ESMS) Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admissions IT is responsible for supporting the IT needs of the UC Irvine Undergraduate Admissions office and Graduate Division office. Our mission is to provide information technology support, services, and innovative solutions to ensure the success of UC Irvine's Undergraduate Admission Office and Graduate Division Office.

UCI's Office of Information Technology is looking for a Software Developer and Support Specialist to join the Graduate Division (GD) and Undergraduate Admissions (UGA) IT team. In this position, you will be responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of the key systems for the Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admission office. Under the supervision of the GD & UGA IT Manager, the Software Developer and Support Specialist applies skills as a software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures for small to medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects. Resolves a variety of programming design and implementation issues. Works on programming assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Demonstrates competency in Java, SQL, RESTFul API, MVC pattern, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Object Oriented Programming, Apache, and Tomcat to obtain results. Required:

One (1) to three (3) years of experience leading, coordinating, and managing all aspects of project management in the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Prefer three (3) years or more of full development life cycle experience. One (1) to three (3) years of supporting homegrown software solutions. Ensure systems and services remain operational and compliant, timely, and accommodate campus growth. Prefer three (3) years or more of operational and production support experience with homegrown software solution.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans. Intermediate skills associated with the design, modification, implementation, and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrated GitHub software repository skills. Demonstrated broad problem-solving skills. Intermediate knowledge of secure software development. Experience with common Java programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.

Preferred:

Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to projects. Experience developing web services (RESTful API), Service-Oriented Architecture, and API development tools such as Postman, Curl, or Swagger. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis. Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms. Strong organizational and project management skills; skilled at working independently and keeping track of ongoing problems, requests, and projects. Ability to plan, conduct, and coordinate projects.
