You will work on a multi-disciplinary team in support of the optics community focusing on optics data curation to optimize business processes and enable more informed decision making. This position is in the NIFC Division within the Computing Directorate.This position will be filled at eitherSES.2 or SES.3 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.In this role you will- Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain software systems using object-oriented analysis, design, and programming techniques, and participate in formal and informal design and code reviews.
- Develop application software supporting the NIF optics lifecycle data flow by understanding, developing, and maintaining the database objects that support it, adhering to design and development conventions established by the NIF software team.
- Apply configuration management on all development artifacts such as source code, test code, design documentation.
- Provide complex solutions to Optics RIs automation needs and application improvements in support of daily operations in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Respond to and resolve operational issues raised by the Optics RIs and other tool users.
- Engage other developers frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Desk-check team members' code for functionality and thoroughness in design.
- Troubleshoot and propose resolutions for complex data issues requiring navigation through multiple layers of views with complex queries and across databases.
- Lead formal and informal design reviews of optics application software changes and enhancements.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Broad experience in all aspects of software project life cycle: feasibility, requirements, design, coding and implementation under configuration control, integration, test and deployment.
- Broad experience and comprehensive knowledge of Oracle database schema design and PL/SQL coding including troubleshooting database procedures.
- Proficient Experience developing software applications with Oracle Application Express, jQuery/JavaScript, Python and/or JAVA in a Unix environments.
- Broad Experience with Oracle Application Express, and other technologies, such as, CSS, HTML and JavaScript.
- Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities.
- Comprehensive analytical skills with the ability to decipher accurate requirements from customer interactions and troubleshoot data integrity issues.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills to prepare, present, and document technical information.
- Significant experience designing, developing, and deploying test plans for software qualification solutions.
- Significant experience resolving data integrity issues where data is shared and updated by multiple applications.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information and provide advice to management.
