SQL Server DBA - Onsite - San Diego, CA Contract to Hire Summary: Under supervision from the IT Manager of Business & Information Systems the SQL Server DBA will provide the organization with an advanced level of expertise in Microsoft SQL server support, design and maintenance. The SQL Server DBA shall be knowledgeable in the principles, procedures, and standards of Microsoft SQL operations, including performance tuning and database optimizations. This position will be responsible for daily operations of the MS SQL 2008, 2012 & 2016 environments. The corporate database environment also utilizes MarkLogic Server, Oracle Database Server, MySQL, and Microsoft Access. Experience in these technologies, especially MarkLogic, would be considered a plus. Responsibilities: - Troubleshoot day to day database and application issues.
- Provide input into standards and procedures for monitoring, capacity planning, maintenance, backups and recovery.
- Support multiple databases in development, staging and production environments in both local and remote data centers.
- Configure and support high availability for SQL Server; to include clustering, replication, DB mirroring and Availability Groups.
- Apply patches and upgrades.
- Create and implement best practices for stored procedures, triggers, packages, tables, and views
- Optimize database performance by analyzing and tuning stored procedures, creating indexes and views, etc. as needed under ITIL guidelines.
- Create and maintain enterprise ETL processes using various ETL tools, such as SSIS, .NET Scripting, and T-SQL.
- Complete database maintenance procedures and generate system reports
- Provide on call support 24/7 in rotation with other members of the database administrators for MS SQL databases.
- Create and implement security models
- Create and support both SQL Reporting Services and SQL Analysis Services.
Primary Responsibilities: Participation: Participate in application development processes to facilitate good database design and access techniques. Support: Support application teams and resolve database problems. Software Installation: Install server-based applications software in coordination with system administrators. Install new software, upgrades, and patches. Backup and Recovery: Plan, prepare and test backup and recovery procedures for all production databases. Database Tuning: Monitor databases for efficiency. Periodically reorganize databases for optimal performance during scheduled down time. Create indices and manipulate tuning parameters where needed to enhance performance. Capacity Planning: Calculate volumetric equations to estimate new database sizes and plan appropriately for growth. Communicate plans to system administrators. Security: Responsible for the security of database systems and all business/scientific applications connected to it. This includes creating and maintaining database and application accounts, application/database patching, and database/application security auditing. Monitoring: Product monitoring for performance and health, participate in load test activities. Experience and Educational Requirements: 5+ years of MS SQL DBA experience. Ability and willingness to provide quality customer service. Effective organizational and interpersonal skills. Experienced with T-SQL, SSIS, .NET Scripting (C# or VB.NET) and PowerShell. ITIL Foundation certification a plus. Experience with BigData / NoSQL Systems or Concepts considered a plus. Experience as a Production DBA. Troubleshoot and resolve database problems. Ability to configure, migrate and maintain MS SQL implementations on Windows Server OS Familiar with SQL reporting services configuration, report deployment & troubleshooting.
