Your Role Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategy Planning & Operations on the Health Solutions team, the Sr. Manager, Strategy Design, in partnership with key senior leaders across the department and organization, works to help facilitate the design, research, and integration of multiple strategies to make a healthcare system worthy of our family and friends that is sustainably affordable for all Californians. The Senior Manager will drive strategy design that will enhance the understanding and merits of new business models, the economic opportunity behind certain ideas, and the case for change in how we address individuals' whole health needs. The Senior Manager supports top business leadership across the business in solving high priority operational issues by driving the communication and development of suitable strategies and goals and alignment with cross-functional business partners. The Senior Manager also plays a mentorship role to key personnel in the strategy design department, assisting in the execution of duties upon request, ensuring constant improvement of skills by key personnel, and readying these personnel for future growth in their careers.

Your Work In this role, you will:

  • Lead strategy design sessions with internal stakeholders to unearth the root cause of problems that face healthcare today
  • Lead/organize/support interviews, workshops or focus groups to better understand what stakeholders want and expect
  • Partner with and provide strategic advice and support to the Senior Director on matters relating to Health Solutions strategic goals, initiatives and structure
  • Support Senior Director and EVP in management and implementation of strategic initiatives and projects within the Health Solutions organization and companywide
  • Manage a high-performing team and maintain an environment that fosters their career growth
  • Skilled and experienced in leading organizations through strategic changes and getting positive results with a proven track record successfully managing teams at a leadership level and driving business improvements
  • Ensure strategic direction of projects/programs and alignment of such with Health Solutions and enterprise-wide goals and objectives; acts as the business unit liaison to corporate initiatives and projects
  • Planning and Execution: form strategy and focuses on plans to implement the strategy
  • Position requires flexibility to work remotely with travel to various Blue Shield of CA or partner locations as needed with the ability to meet multiple deadlines and handle interruptions to on-going work activities
  • A knack for facilitation - the ability to design smart protocols and experiences that surface ideas and insights from diverse stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Graduate degree (MBA or MPH) preferred
  • Requires 10 or more years of prior relevant experience, including 4 years of management experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience is required
  • Six Sigma lean, green or black belt certification is desirable
  • Working knowledge of Blue Shield of California's mission, vision and strategy and healthcare industry environment
  • Experience with design thinking, including the ability to design processes for soliciting and synthesizing stakeholder feedback, ideas, insights and research
  • Systems thinking mental model for taking multiple proposed solutions and internal business and technical capabilities, and provide insights, recommendations, and implementation support of unified enterprise solutions where appropriate vs. point solutions
  • Practical working experience in enterprise change, growth strategy implementation, strategic planning, and complex financial analysis
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with key internal and external partner representatives and team members
  • Ability to work collaboratively to identify innovative solutions and strategies in support of the organization's mission
  • Excellent presentation skills that encompass clear, compelling communications with the ability to convey complex information in a manner that others can understand at all levels of an organization
  • Experience navigating large and complex organizations, including gaining access to key executives and stakeholders and successfully managing relationship building dynamics and processes
  • Proven ability to determine key business issues, develop effective action plans and implement to successful conclusion. Proven ability to get work done in a matrixed team environment

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is: 145200.00 to 217800.00 for California.
