KORE1, a nationwide provider of staffing and recruiting solutions, has an immediate opening for a Sr. Principal Communication Signal Processing Engineer: wireless comm (data link systems) algorithm development/implementation into FPGA (VHDL w/ Vivado) Key member of the development of digital signal processing related VHDL for use in communication datalink systems and other programs as required. Applies fundamental engineering principles, procedures, and techniques to perform advanced systems engineering assignments related to the development of electronic and software-intensive systems and subsystems. Works with the FPGA team to implement algorithms in VHDL. Knowledge of FPGA design environments, including ISE, Vivado (preferred), EDK, Modelsim, and Matlab a plus. Charged with taking wireless communication signal processing algorithms & implementing them into FPGA (w/ VHDL / Vivado). Performs complex electrical engineering duties following designated standards and procedures. Works closely with engineering disciplines. Duties require the application of engineering principles and techniques. May supervise subordinate engineering staff and lead design efforts. This job requires strong analytical and technical abilities and demands fast, but carefully thought-out results. Strong leadership and control of the work process from beginning to end are necessary. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making. Additional Job Duties and Responsibilities:- Familiar with VHDL or Verilog design and FPGA architectures.
- Use of MatLab for fixed-point, bit-accurate VHDL verification for communication datalinks
- Able to break down communication system functions into FPGA sub-components, implement VHDL blocks, and create input/output vectors for discrete VHDL verification.
- Implementation of DSP designs, including modulation/demodulation, and frequency, phase, time, and AGC tracking loops.
- Familiar with networking architectures and multiple access techniques.
- Provides technical direction and strategy to engineering development efforts for solving complex issues.
- Outlines and communicates the most appropriate technical approach for business development activities.
- Plans and evaluates architectural design and reviews system performance.
- Identifies, investigates, and resolves technical issues and mitigates risks.
- Participate in engineering design change boards and technical/project reviews.
- Communicates technical advancements through briefings and technical papers, as appropriate.
- Maintains state-of-the-art awareness in areas of technical expertise such as changes, advancements, and improvements.
- Develops algorithms.
- Plans, conducts, and directs research and development.
- Applies advanced systems methods, theories, and research techniques.
- Propose innovative engineering solutions and improve engineering processes.
- Involved in design review activities, including proposal technical volume reviews.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and problem-solving skills are necessary
Minimum Job Requirements:- This job is at a cleared facility, candidates must hold U.S. Citizenship and be able to obtain a security clearance
- 4 year college degree in engineering PLUS 17+ years of related experience OR a master's degree in a related field PLUS 15+ years of experience OR a Ph.D. PLUS 12+ years of experience.
- Extensive wireless communication signal processing algorithm development for data link systems (for as many as possible: satcom, airborne, ground-to-ground, radio comm, point-to-point, multi-point, etc.)
- Experience implementing those algorithms into FPGA (VHDL w/ Vivado preferred)
- Extensive FPGA design / implementation including VDHL design / development
- Knowledge of FPGA design environments, including ISE, Vivado (preferred), EDK, Modelsim and Matlab a plus
- Modeling experience (w/ Matlab) is helpful, but the primary skill.
- Might consider relevant experience in lieu of education.
- Proven track record in the areas of innovation, technical solutions, or product development.
- Recognized as a published expert within the field of engineering.
- Expertise in leading cross-functional teams to drive business strategies.
- Desired experience in designing, developing, and testing communications signal processing functions in FPGAs.
- Ability to use typical office automation products such as word processors and spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of customer needs and competing products.
- Ability to prioritize work, complete multiple tasks, and work under deadlines. Good interpersonal skills.
- May be required to travel domestically.
- Ability to effectively interface with executives, customers, subcontractors, and vendors, and deal with employees and managers at all levels both within and outside of the engineering organization. In-depth knowledge of customer needs and competing products
