At Maxar Space, we architect and build the most reliable, affordable spacecraft and space systems to enable global communications, commerce, education, entertainment, health services, disaster recovery, and Earth observation. Our Palo Alto-based team is currently seeking a Staff Spacecraft Propulsion Engineer to join our team to support test and evaluation of thrusters and other propulsion components. In this role, you will travel to top test facilities, perform hands-on testing of cutting edge in-space propulsion hardware, collaborate and work shoulder-to-shoulder with the industry's finest engineers and technicians. Primary Responsibilities (what you will do day to day):- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and members of the test team to test and evaluate electric and chemical (biprop/monoprop) spacecraft propulsion systems
- Prepare high-level test and evaluation strategies and plans as well as detailed test plans and procedures; present test readiness reviews; generate test reports and documentation
- Oversee and monitor qualification and development tests; ensure safe operations; perform multidisciplinary troubleshooting
- Perform data acquisition, reduction, evaluation; model correlation
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
- 5 or more years of relevant experience; a Master's degree can be considered in lieu of 2 years of professional experience
- In-depth knowledge of spacecraft propulsion systems, propellants, and hardware
- Proficient with programming/scripting tools such as Python and Matlab, familiar with CFD and 3D CAD
- 20% travel required
- Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
