We are looking for a manager with a background in compilers or static analysis to lead a team responsible for building tools and compiler features to eliminate entire classes of security vulnerabilities. Working with some of the best compiler, security, and operating system engineers in the world, this role will require hands-on management. It will involve developing compiler-security features, mentoring engineers, growing the team by hiring, and partnering with operating system, security, and hardware teams to improve the security and reliability of software in the Apple ecosystem. 5+ years experience leading a technical team and collaborating across organizational boundaries

Experience with compiler development or with development of program analysis or refactoring tools

An interest in working on bug-finding tools and specifically static analysis for for C, C, Objective-C and Swift

Experience hiring engineers and technical leaders and helping grow their careers

Strong communication and organizational skills

Excellent software engineering, testing, and debugging ability

DescriptionIn this role your primary responsibility will be to manage and support a small team of deeply technical compiler and static analysis engineers who ship tools to find and fix software bugs. This team collaborates closely with operating systems engineers, security engineers, and language designers to improve the security and stability of C, C, Objective-C, and Swift codebases in Apple’s platform and ecosystem. The team develops and maintains static analysis tools to find bugs, creates new security-oriented compiler warnings, and builds tooling to help projects modernize their codebases to adopt best practices for security and stability. We are active contributors to the Clang/LLVM open source community. In your engineering manager role you will: Lead and manage a team of innovative static analysis and compiler engineers to create developer tools with millions of users Develop and execute on a roadmap to build tools to continually improve the security of Apple’s operating system software stack, including user space, kernel, and firmware environments. Work with cross-functional teams to design, plan, and deliver high-quality software features for our tools and operating systems. Work closely with Apple’s IDE and CI teams to integrate our tools and design a great overall developer experience. Strengthen the team by hiring and developing top engineering talent. Help grow a strong open-source Clang/LLVM community centered around our tools. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $183,400.00 and $316,900.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
