Position Summary:

UCI's Office of Information Technology (OIT) Department consists of 400+ IT professionals. OIT is passionate about providing services to the diverse campus community comprising of students, faculty, and staff, enabling the campus to further UC's Mission to "serve society as a center of higher learning, providing long-term societal benefits". As a Summer Session IT Manager and Leader, you'll be a member of the Enterprise Student Management Systems (ESMS) OIT Division, consisting of 50+ IT professionals specializing in delivery of high-quality, effective, customer-centric, software solutions while also supporting the solutions in operation. ESMS' key campus partners drive student success through various stages of their higher education career. Summer Session is one facet of ESMS supported business offices and is an essential aspect in each student's pursuit of education.

The Summer Session IT Manager - Applications and Leader works autonomously, cultivates a fun and energetic Scrum team, fosters continuous improvement, inspires learning and growing through staff development, guides a team through the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), supports OIT's culture and values , and promotes an engaging team. Our leadership team collaborates with individuals in various roles including our own OIT leadership, business leadership, project managers, business systems analysists, application developers, and quality assurance. ESMS IT Managers partner with business offices and take pride in making customers' day-to-day easier through technology, supporting student facing systems, helping the business grow and achieve their strategic goals, and enhancing and supporting our wide technology stack of home-grown and vendor products. Required:
  • Typically 3-5 years of experience managing an Information Technology organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field.

  • Experience providing and managing operational support for a complex and mission critical business systems including system/process/job monitoring, data validation, incident detection and management, root cause analysis, etc.
  • Experience analyzing and recommending buy vs. build solutions to meet business needs and objectives.
  • Experience researching, evaluating, acquiring, configuring, implementing and operating vendor or community source systems and related interfaces to other systems.
  • Experience using and leveraging Jira, ServiceNow or other work, ticketing, incident management system.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of service delivery principles.
  • Experience developing and monitoring SLAs and OLAs.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; skilled at working independently and keeping track of a large number of on-going problems, requests and projects; experiencing leading projects using OIT and industry standard project management processes, principles and techniques.
  • Ability to plan, conduct and coordinated multiple, simultaneous projects. Experience architecting, implementing, supporting and managing complex and mission critical business applications, systems, databases, integrations, data-feeds and reports in a complex and distributed environment.
  • Thorough understanding of web services (RESTful and/or SOAP), knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture and experience with API development tools such as Postman, Curl, Aglio API Blueprint or Drakov.
  • Detailed and practical knowledge of relational data design and modeling, SQL programming and relational database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL.
  • Understanding of UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience providing operational support including scheduling, monitoring, issue resolution, execution and troubleshooting applications, jobs, processes, data feeds, etc.

Preferred:
  • Detailed and practical knowledge of developing business applications using Java and Java frameworks.
  • Knowledge of university administrative business processes, especially those pertaining to student enrollment, financial services, payment taking, and student financial aid.

  • Must have valid driver's license or State ID.
  • May be required to work overtime, as needed.
