Your best is waiting to be discovered.Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)This is a Stanford Health Care job.A Brief OverviewThis position oversees the daily operations of the echocardiography department including patient flow, daily staffing, orientation and training for new hires. Interviews applicants as part of the panel with Echo Lab manager, recommends hires. Also responsible for generating preliminary interpretation of ultrasound procedures, conducts echo-sonographic procedures on all patients of all ages through the use of highly sophisticated equipment. Does not supplant the physician in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis, but will assist in gathering sonographic and other medical data necessary to reach a medical diagnosis and decision.The echo lab supervisor must conduct and record echocardiographic ultrasound studies based on a physician order, acquire all images and complete all measurements based on a standard protocol, and issue a preliminary reports for interpreting physician, according to departmental policies and procedures and job standards. This position assists in training of residents and ultrasound students. The Supervisor Echocardiography shows a high degree of judgment and skill in use of sonographic equipment. This position ensures that equipment is constantly functional and maintained for immediate use.LocationsStanford Health CareWhat you will do

Perform ultrasound tests on inpatients, outpatients, and research patients including the following imaging modalities: Two-dimensional, Three-dimensional, M-mode, Doppler, Color Doppler, and Tissue Doppler.

Be comfortable with 3D protocols (acquiring images perform analysis of views and perform all measurements).

Perform Exercise/Dobutamine Stress echo tests, as well as aid in the performance of Transesophageal echo and supine bike exercise echo.

Perform necessary duties at the console (PC workstation) relative to processing echocardiograms, i.e. entering data, editing, and acquisition of data. Conduct on-line interpretation of studies to select appropriate data and measurements for analysis and generate a preliminary report.

Work with colleagues in a "team approach" to encourage a positive and service- oriented image for the department. Respond to requests in a timely and friendly manner. Utilize professional language and action at all times.

Communicate with referring physicians, office personnel, and other individuals or organizations which utilize the laboratory services. Interface with university and community physicians to advise and recommend the type of study that will achieve appropriate results based on patient indications.

Prepare patients for tests and assure proper "log-in" of patient information/data for Exercise stress echo, Dobutamine stress echo, and Transesophageal echo tests.

Attend to the patient after the exam is completed and provide follow-up information about the test.

Respond to emergency calls and perform and/or assist with pericardial taps, alcohol ablations, and biopsy guidance when requested.

Explain the purpose and procedure of each test to the patient in a professional and friendly manner.

Maintain echo machines and equipment, replace supplies, and identify equipment problems to the supervisor.

Serve as liaison with patient units and other departments to ensure adequate and timely patient transport.

Participate in hazardous waste management including proper disposal of waste materials, disinfecting probes, and filing necessary forms.

Keep exam rooms clean and tidy, change bedding after each use, wipe down the machine and transducer, fill gel bottles when needed, and re-stock linens.

Assist as needed in clerical activities and in the processing of charges.

Assist in the training of cardiovascular medicine fellows, visiting physicians, and student interns.

Responsible for developing and maintaining diagnostic procedures and protocols as well as assisting in ensuring that all regulatory AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine), Joint Commission and ICAEL standards are met.

Assist in overseeing workflows, work assignment, operational effectiveness and human resources issues in the Echo Lab.

Participate in Orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents and faculty.

Participate in and assist in the development of clinical and research protocols.

Perform all Echo-sonographer duties in assigned areas.

Education Qualifications

Requirement met by license/certification requirement.

Completion of AMA approved cardiac sonographer training curriculum/program required.

Experience Qualifications

Five (5) years work experience required as a cardiac sonographer showing progressive responsibilities and direct related work activities combined clinical and supervisory.

Ability to interpret physician instructions and patient medical and clinical records to determine type of ultrasonic procedure/test to be performed.

Superior skills to perform any complex and specialized echo protocol and deliver a complete and correct preliminary report to the interpreting physician.

Ability to work effectively as a team player.

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and congenital/acquired pathology as they relate to the use and interpretation of ultrasound diagnostic procedures.

Expert knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

Expert knowledge of principles of the PACS network and/or other electronic image processing and image development systems.

Expert knowledge of principles of ultrasound physics, and the propagation of ultrasound through tissues.

Expert knowledge of safety principles and procedures related to ultrasound procedures and equipment.

Expert knowledge of ultrasound diagnostic procedures and equipment/instrumentation.
