Job Description

Technical Writer 5+ Months, Possible extension 100% Remote, Work from home Job Description:
  • Analyze current documentation against needs and identify missing gaps in documentation, and work with teams that own systems in these areas to produce documentation to fill the gaps
  • Refine and improve our documentation standards
  • Write documentation for new features, existing features
  • Check-in with app owners to find the next area of documentation/training that is still lacking
  • Analyze efficacy and drive improvements
  • Engage with key stakeholders / engineering community
  • Identify areas where sample code or runbooks would be impactful and be able to at least stub out those things.
  • Identify gaps in tooling to make it easier for engineers to learn our tooling

Skills:
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics
  • Learn complex concepts, and communicate the information in a way that is engaging and understood by customers.
  • Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding.
  • Define Information Architecture around the goals of our customers
  • Previous experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Previous software development experience? Familiarity with the SLDC?
  • Strong experience owning an end-to-end documentation creation process.
  • A positive attitude, willing to jump in and tackle new challenges.

Education:
  • Comfortable working in an unstructured writing environment with evolving processes and homegrown systems.
  • 5+ years of experience working directly with engineers, product managers, and other partners to help document guidance, best practices, and runbooks
  • Experience writing all common forms of developer documentation (API reference, conceptual guides, and tutorials).
  • Experience writing Markdown and HTML by hand.
  • Experience writing code examples in pseudo code and at least one of the following: Ruby, Java, Go
  • Familiarity with version control systems.
  • Experience with Google cloud or AWS
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Infosec/Security principles a plus.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with modern CMS/documentation tools (like Contentful) a plus
