Virtualization Engineer.

Candidate must be authorized to work in USA without requiring sponsorship

Location: Los Angeles, CA 90024

Duration: 12 months contract w/ possibility of extension

  • Hybrid role, mostly remote but onsite as needed.

Description:
  • Provide technical support responsibilities for various hypervisors (VMWare ESX & Microsoft Hyper-V), cloud virtualization technologies (focused on AWS and Azure), and hardware platforms such as Converged, Hyper-converged systems.
  • To date, the supported environment consists of over 5,000+ virtual servers.
  • Candidate will be working closely with the Virtualization Architect to provide leading-edge virtualization solutions to the organization.
  • Role functions also include but are not limited to Systems design architecture, design/architecture validation, and direct or indirect oversight of systems installation, performance monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a variety of systems and hardware platforms.
  • Participate in the weekly rotational after-hours on-call support. Available for after-hours on-call 24x7 support.
  • Maintain and support virtualization solutions (VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V) considering sizing, infrastructure, data protection, disaster recovery, and application requirements.
  • Perform planned maintenance activities on an established cycle. Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory & documentation.
  • Build, maintain and optimize virtualization platforms such as converged and hyper-converged.
  • Provide support for various hardware for hosted infrastructure build and maintenance.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of the entire Virtualization Infrastructure.
  • Research root cause of problems and escalate to lead engineer and vendor support, as necessary.
  • Develop, automate, and implement operations best practices and appropriately size/re-size the VM guests to maintain systems stability and optimized.
  • Provision virtual guests, maintain storage, computing resources, and support.
  • Perform capacity management functions to ensure available compute resources for upcoming projects on the roadmap.
  • Perform needs analysis, information gathering on client expectations, and technical baselines for writing or reviewing Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding and expertise for the deployment of networking technologies in a virtualized environment and be able to present these concepts in conjunction with the ISS Networking Engineering team.
  • Responsible for systems design, build, and implementation in the PM Lifecycle.
  • Validate production readiness of environment architectures and designs.
  • Ensure review and validation of architecture, design, and build the documentation as part of the Formal Design Review and Technical Standards.
  • Provide analysis of business requirements to provide sound technical solutions.
  • Conduct hardware and software evaluations providing detailed analysis and recommendations based on the study’s outcome.
  • Research and recommend tools, scripts, and utilities to improve technical processes.
  • Be a champion for ISS and serve as a role model to encourage others to embrace operational changes associated with ISS initiatives.
  • Be a robust technical advocate and resource to the project team.
  • Present designs and explain complex technical topics to different audiences.

Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of industry-leading virtualization technologies from both a design and engineering perspective.
  • Experienced with VMWare ESX / Hyper-V or a combination of both. Strong understanding of Virtual environments.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Windows Administration.
  • Experience with HP, Cisco UCS, converge and Hyper-converged platforms, hardware installation, and maintenance.
  • Preferred Microsoft or VMware Certification.
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
