Job Description

As a member of the biotherapeutics group, the incumbent plays a key role in leading the efforts for advancing the monoclonal antibodies, bioconjugates and bispecifics portfolio at Exelixis. The incumbent supports the head of biotherapeutics in the development and execution of comprehensive strategies to ensure effective achievement of long-term discovery biotherapeutic objectives stemming from collaboration projects and internal efforts

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership and execution of antibody–based therapeutic programs. Lead new approaches and technologies to make key advances for developing the biotherapeutics portfolio at Exelixis Define and grow areas of strategic focus in alignment with the company’s biotherapeutics objectives Engage in strategic planning and prioritization of departmental programs and allocation of internal/external resources for both short-, mid- and long-term goals. Working in partnership with internal discovery leaders, non-clinical and early clinical development, business development, and external partners, to discuss and resolve project needs and issues in research and early development of biotherapeutics. Establish tactical plans, provide leadership oversight on overall execution, and ensure successful and timely completion of plans. Lead projects in external collaborations Lead and/or participate in joint steering committees to develop and manage external collaborations. Provide support in evaluation of biologics research platforms and preclinical licensing candidates as needed. Maintain consistent, multi-level communication with Discovery and Development Team Members, Senior Management, and the Executive Team. Lead and/or participate in joint steering committees to develop and manage external collaborations. Follow company intellectual property and compliance policies and practices. Comply with company health and safety policies and general laboratory practices. Departmental activities such as budget planning, administrative management and employee performance development and planning if position oversees internal employees.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employee(s)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Education: Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in related scientific discipline such as biology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology or microbiology and a minimum of seventeen years of experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry post Ph.D. Equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: Prior significant experience in biologics discovery programs required Strong background in biologics domain particularly in the field of antibody discovery and protein engineering. Experience with ADCs is a must Experience leading and managing Oncology/ ADC/Immuno-Oncology Programs Research experience with antibody-based therapeutics from discovery to IND Experience writing intellectual property filings, reports, and non-clinical IND sections

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Extensive scientific knowledge in field biologics in Oncology and experience taking biologics projects from discovery to IND Extensive knowledge of biologics platforms, applications, and development. Comprehensive understanding of current approaches and emerging technologies in biotherapeutics. Extensive knowledge of biophysical and biochemical characterization of bioconjugates and bispecifics for research and development. Knowledge of intellectual property matters, and issues related to biotherapeutics. The knowledge to apply advanced scientific and technical principles, theories, and concepts, and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts. Ability to set goals with an understanding of priority and impact to program, department, and organization. Think strategically and solution oriented. Take a hands-on, “roll up your sleeves” approach. Ability to drive, facilitate, track, anticipate, influence, and implement team objectives; challenge the status quo where relevant. Ability to resolve conflicts within the team

Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
