Day to Day/Project:

Supporting a small (but growing) Design Operations and Strategy group. This person will need experience with design systems, processes, and tooling. They will likely be very organized, process driven, and open to facilitation and enablement in a design setting. They will likely have experience consuming design systems, making and maintaining component libraries, documenting standards, and working across multiple groups. This team is a centralized design team within Charter's SSPP organization that owns customer facing websites and applications. Some of the features in those websites and apps that this team will be responsible for from the design standpoint will be advanced wifi, mobile, change services, and billing.

Position Description:The practice of Design Operations focuses on processes and measures that support designers in creating consistent, quality designs.

Within our Self-Service Design team, we have a small but growing group focused on

Design Operations and Strategy. These designers are highly organized, process-driven individuals who help our greater team collaborate to deliver with consistency and quality.

Simply put, a Design Operations Strategist will be focuses on Processes, Tooling, Documentation, and Collaboration Enablement.

Processes

  • Defining, refining, and promoting our processes and standards of practice.
  • Working across our design groups to make sure our processes are optimized to provide value to the designers they impact the most.
  • Understanding how to implement the right guard rails without micromanaging.

Tooling

  • Acting as the administrators and gatekeepers for the array of tools needed to successfully deliver designs within our organization.
  • Creating and maintaining our component libraries that bridge the gap between Spectrum's design system and the unique needs of our Self-Service products.
  • Partnering closely with our Design System team that sits outside of our immediate organization.

Documentation

  • Documenting the abstract concepts behind our components that explain the what and the why of consistent utilization.
  • Documenting our processes and practices to avoid a reliance on tribal knowledge.
  • Playing a crucial role in the execution of our Experience Debt model by guiding product and feature audits to build and maintain a backlog of issues that will eventually consumed by development teams.

Collaboration Enablement

  • Onboarding new resources to effectively assimilate into our team, delivering with consistency and quality.
  • Helping to assist in facilitating design syncs and critiques.
  • Serving as the bridge with our peers in the various design enablement teams we work with like Accessibility, UX Research, and Content Design.

A candidate will likely find success in this role if they have experience:

  • Creating, optimizing, and documenting processes and best practices
  • Working directly with design systems in a hands-on capacity
  • Building and maintaining component libraries for Sketch and Figma
  • Facilitating design syncs and critiques that drive collaboration and visibility
  • Onboarding new resources to quickly and successfully assimilate within a design team
  • Being the "glue" that connects multiple design and design enablement teams
  • Creating and maintaining libraries for Experience/Design Debt
  • Working in fast-paced, collaborative, multi-discipline environments
  • Working across multiple design teams to promote consistency and quality
  • Working with Atlassian products

  • Agile methodology and how to effectively incorporate design teams

This person will be responsible for creating and refining processes and practices for all designers as well as working closely with our design system team to optimize its consumption for the unique needs of self-service products.
