Fire Protection Engineer (5 - 10 years)

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer with five to ten years of working experience, who wants to be a part of our start-up office growth and culture. The successful candidate will have a desire to work, grow, and have fun with a multi-discipline engineering team. They are passionate about their craft and looking for an environment that promotes professional growth and professional excellence.The successful individual will have professional experience in fire protection engineering. Technical skills will include, but may not be limited to, fire and life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; smoke control design and special inspections; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts.Desired Skills and Duties:Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and simple graphicsWorking knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and fire protection software packages (e.g. CONTAM, FDS)Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectationsPossess project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needsAttend and participate in local and national professional organizations, such as SFPE and NFPAProvide peer reviews of colleagues’ work productHave or be developing an “area of expertise” within fire protection engineeringPerform building and fire code analysis and code interpretationsPrepare performance-based designs and fire hazards analysisDevelop engineering judgements for code alternativesPerform analysis of existing fire protection systems, as well as designing new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and mass notification systemsPerforming research and documentation for internal and external distribution
