Job Overview:

The Outpatient Pediatric Clinic RN provides clinical care to pediatric patients in collaboration with other clinic staff and assists with administrative duties, as needed, under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and providers. Provides professional nursing care in accordance with known/accepted standards of practice and AVH policies. Some travel may be required to work at offsite locations.

Primary Scope of Responsibilities: from here out the word patient will refer to pediatric patients age 0-18 years old

  • Fully competent in the RN role of the Primary Care clinic.
  • Respond to clinical needs of pediatric patients based on acuity, nursing standards, and AVH policies and procedures. Make value-added resource decisions for patient care with respect to supplies, equipment, and acuity of care.
  • Demonstrate competency in all aspects of day to day operations of the clinic including patient care, triaging phone calls, obtaining POC labs, perform phlebotomy on the pediatric patient, obtaining interpreter as needed, patient education, assisting MD, anticipating patient care needs, preparation and processing of medical records, and facilitating follow up care.
  • Assist with patient chart preparation prior to clinic visits. Obtain patient medical data and pertinent diagnostic results, enter in electronic medical record.
  • Room clinic visit patients, obtain vital signs, complete required documentation in the electronic medical record, advise provider of any concerning or unusual findings during assessment. Assist provider with device interrogation as needed.
  • Obtain EKGs on any pediatric patients and as requested by provider.
  • Assist with receptionist, registration, and scheduling duties as needed.
  • Follow established guidelines to prepare and complete oxygen orders for patients.
  • Manage insurance company prior authorizations. Refer to provider for peer to peer when applicable.
  • Medication Management: maintain proper documentation of in clinic and dispensed meds. Label all dispensed meds according to AVH policy. Follows through on patient requests for medication refills/renewals - obtains orders as needed and refills prescriptions according to department policy. Provides sample medications as directed by respective Medical Director/Physician. Maintains medication sample in/out logs. Reviews medication sample closet and disposes of expired medications as needed.
  • Record pertinent clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and hospital policies. Documentation includes nursing assessment form, Medication Reconciliation form, and patient education/discharge instruction form.
  • Follow established PPE Guidelines.
  • Alert department Director of issues, concerns, supply, or operational needs that require hierarchal authority to solve.
  • Facilitate patient/work flow and efficiency in the clinic through collaboration with clinic staff.
  • Demonstrates competency in all aspects of patient care including: assisting physician with procedures while demonstrating knowledge and competency in procedure set up, sterile process, and decontamination and universal precautions; providing patient education and discharge instructions; triaging phone calls; and follow up patient care management, and accurately charging for patient visits/procedures. Provides for continuity of care through scheduling, physician office communication, and patient communication/education/follow up.
  • Maintain flexibility for reassignment to one of the other providers in the clinic as assigned by Director, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 2 years of pediatric nursing experience preferred.
  • Associated Degree in Nursing; BSN Graduate preferred
  • Current Colorado nursing license or other approved Compact license
  • BLS required

Pay range for new hires: $32.41 - $42.13/hr
