: Release Train Engineer - must be local to Denver and work onsite two days/week!

Location: Denver, CO, on site 2-3 days a week long term

Compensation: The base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $150,000. This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different. The department: The Global Technology department plays a crucial role in supporting the success of the business. We are responsible for developing and implementing state-of-the-art software and hardware maintenance to support our fund management, trading, distribution and operational areas with secure, stable and resilient technology platforms.

Overview of the role: The focus for this role is expected to be: 70% Release Train Engineer responsibilities 30% Initiative Management responsibilities My client has adopted an Agile framework for change development and implementation. This agile framework is being used to transversally enhance the release cycle, leading to a more efficient and scalable environment. As the Release Train Engineer, you will be responsible for building upon a recently implemented scaled agile framework. You will facilitate release train level planning, alignment, organisation and execution of prioritized work. This will require event facilitation, release planning, scrum of scrum ceremonies and working with scrum masters to manage the day-to-day distribution impediments to successful release. To be successful in this role, you will be able to strike a balance between execution on the current release and planning for future releases. This role is responsible for aligning to transversal scrum deliverables, ensuring changes can be delivered and working closely with the product teams to ensure that blockers are cleared. You must analyze requirements and succinctly define stories to enable successful development. You will not only need excellent problem-solving skills, but you should also be able to see the strategic impacts of any cross-team dependencies and advance where necessary. Initiative management involves coordination of change driven by a single stakeholder that spans multiple product teams and hence where there are key dependencies to be managed.

Duties and responsibilities: You will: Event and Ceremony Facilitation

  • Facilitate program increment planning including facilitation of planning readiness through the preparation of planning materials (vision, roadmap, backlogs), event scheduling and event management.
  • Facilitate key ceremonies including Scrum of Scrums, release train level retrospectives, quarterly reviews and other meetings as required with both technology and business partners.
  • Establish and communicate quarterly and annual calendars for release iterations and planning events.
  • Coordinate activities and enable collaboration across all impacted teams/areas.
  • Aggregate product team level objectives into release train level objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency.
  • Broadly communicate release commitments post planning sessions.

Reporting, Metrics and Overall Transparency:

  • Combine metrics from product teams to a release train level reporting view.
  • Track and report on progress of features mapped against goals and roadmap categories.
  • Identify internal and external dependencies that impact work; manage program level risks and dependencies across teams; provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks; escalate and remove impediments.
  • Report planning results and feature status to senior management, business owners, product owners and other partners.
  • Build, maintain and report high-level program / project and project management maturity, standard methodologies and tools; with an emphasis on moving toward Agile.
  • Regular reporting with senior stakeholders globally.

Cross-departmental Alignment:

  • Work with other technology and business teams/stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment across the organization.
  • Support cross application / department / function release planning, coordination and alignment.

Initiative Management:

  • Plan initiatives working with product managers and product owners across Technology to establish scope, impact, estimates, schedule and dependencies.
  • Track progress advancing issues with product managers and Head of Department as required.
  • Ensure SRF reporting of initiative progress is completed.

Coaching:

  • Keep teams aligned on vision, direction and scope of the release train.
  • Mentor leaders, product teams and Scrum Masters in Agile practices and mindsets.
  • Ensure Agile governance standards, best practices and required reviews are met.
  • Support scrum deployment activities to global offices, crafting an opportunity for like-minded scrum masters to share experiences and learn from each other.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Technical skills and qualifications:

  • RTE and/or SCRUM Master related experience using SAFe Agile delivery frameworks.
  • Business Program or portfolio management experience.
  • Experience managing virtual and global distributed teams.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment.
  • SAFe RTE as well as other SAFe certifications desired.
  • Demonstrated hands on leadership of large-scale process development/improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with and understanding of concepts of Organizational Change Management.
  • Power User of Jira and Aha.
  • Experience with Distribution systems (CRM, reporting, websites) is desirable.
  • Experience and understanding of Azure, Databricks Cosmos and APIM are desirable.
