Job Title: RF/DC Engineer Job Type: Permanent Location: Ft. Collins, CO (onsite) Salary Range: $80k - $95k POSITION SUMMARY: Our client is currently seeking both RF and Switch Mode Power Design Engineers to join their world class RF Engineering team These key engineering roles lead projects in applied research, design, development, testing, and documentation of RF power products and systems, and work directly with customers to clearly define and understand equipment/system requirements to assure customer success. Ideal candidates are leaders with a passion to innovate enabling precision power products for our customers most critical processes. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for design, validation, and productization of high-power RF systems to specific design requirements. Projects range from modifications to existing systems, as well as the development of new systems and platforms.
  • Execution of Product Develop Process, including the design and analysis of system level and subsystems/circuits to meet specification, cost, budget, schedule, quality, and regulatory compliance goals.
  • Acts as main communication channel with vendors to provide specifications for customized magnetic components, provide feedback to vendor design team, and ensure that components fit within Advanced Energy's design systems, while meeting project budget and delivery timelines.
  • Works with Senior Engineers to test circuits including electrical performance, mechanical performance, and reliability.
  • Responsible for documenting test results and proposing possible improvements.
  • Works with R&D team to research new AC/DC, DC/DC converter topologies, RF amplifiers, RF Measurement, and control methods for RF power supply units.
  • Develops mathematical models and simulations.
  • Assists Development Engineers in diagnosing issues with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommends/implements corrective actions to address.
  • Responsible for supporting Engineering efforts related to various programs or projects and the corresponding administrative documentation and paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Circuit design and simulation with experience with finite element analysis, linear and non-linear network analysis: (experience with key SW tools a plus: LTSpice , Cadence , Ansoft EM Tools (HFSS, Q3D), Sonnet , Agilent ADS and Momentum).
  • General scripting language skills; MATLAB and or PythonTM.
  • Schematic capture and PCBA layout (experience with Altium Designer a plus).
  • Thermal management.
  • Design for Reliability.
  • Control loop design and theory.
  • Power electronics design and power device selection: Si MOSFETs, SiC MOSFETS, GaN, LDMOS
  • Strong lab skills.
    • RF instruments, power equipment, common electrical equipment.
    • Hands-on lab skills in assembly and test.
  • Ability to solve moderately complex technical problems independently.
  • Team player and leader with a strong sense of urgency to meet product requirements schedule.
  • Excellent Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly assess and manage risk.
  • Specialist in either high power RF Design OR DC Switch mode Roles (experience with both a plus)
  • Class E and Class D Amplifier Design
    • Freq: 13.56MHz, 27.12 - 100MHz+
    • Power level: 500W - 3kW, 5kW - 12kW, 15kW to 30kW+
  • RF Design expertise including Driver/Exciter, Combiner/Splitter, Measurement (V/I Sensor, Coupler), RF Layout, Filter Design and Impedance Matching
  • Proper selection of RF power devices and materials; RF FETs, Diodes, PCB, Magnetics
  • Buck, Boost, Half-Bridge, Full-Bridge, Fly-Back, PFC
    • Working frequencies of 100kHz to 2 MHz
    • Power levels of 1kW to 60kW
  • Power Magnetics design
  • Current, Voltage, and Power measurement techniques
  • High voltage
EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-3 years of previous experience working in Engineering or similar with bachelor's degree or 1-2 years' experience in Engineering or similar with Master's degree.
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar required.
  • Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering preferred.
